The electric company here has days where they tell certain customer that if they use less than a set number of KHW's between 11-6, they receive a credit on their bill. It's called reduce your use.
We signed up for the program when we moved here back in February, but last month was the first time we had 1 day. That day my husband happened to be home, but we were gone maybe half of the time. We just made use everything we could turn off or unplug was done, however when we go home everyone turned things back on. For that one day last month, if I remember correctly we had to use less than 9 KWH between 11-6. I do not recall how many we used, I believe it was 4 and we received a $3.50 credit.
This month we have had 2 Reduced Your Use days, and we have another one tomorrow. The credits have not posted to our account yet, but I can see for yesterday we were allotted 36 KWH during 11-6. I am assuming that is because some people are running their A/C. According to the company's website we used 3 KWH between 11-6, that was with my daughter and I home all day. The possible credit amount makes me very happy.
Does the power company where you live offer these incentives? If so, do you take advantages of these (or other discounts) they offer?

That's a shame. Just about every place we have lived there was some program in place. Here even a low income discount is available. Instead of paying $.17 per KWH that rate can but cut up to 50%. You know of they at inning both deals this company is making major money.
