My boyfriend has higher blood pressure. And I wonder how to make a specific diet for him to like what he eats.
He likes a lot fast food, fried potatoes, meatballs or whatever made of meat - he would love it. I am doing my best to cook at home, which for me seems more healthy, but still he doesn't eat some things.
He also is having very bad kidney problem, he has stones in his kidneys, so I am always searching information online how I may help him stop producing them in his kidneys, but most of the food he has to eat he doesn't like.
And sometimes the budget is not allowing us to keep diet, but even if it allows, I know he doesn't like green beans, cooked vegetables, soup (doesn't matter what is in). I try to change his habit into different food every day, but meat inside will only cause the pressure go higher.

Cayenne and garlic are very good for high bp. Many people take this and it works. There has been much research done on this and there are many articles on the internet about it. For help with the kidney stones you can check out www.earthclinic.com There is some very good information there. It contains herbal & all natural remedies. They do not sell anything. But the bottom line is that if your bf does not change his ways he, as well as you, is in for a very bad time. He apparently is not taking care of his health. It's difficult to help people who won't help themselves. Maybe he never will. You are a very good person to try to help as much as you are. Just make sure you take care of your OWN health. :-) Hope this helps a little.

Thank you very much. My boyfriend hates the smell and the taste of garlic. That's why it kind of piss me off he choose to eat things which are not that good, instead of healthier food. He likes vegetables, but the few which are good for him he doesn't like.
Also doesn't like spices in any dish, he put them away when he eats the dish.

I have heard that for his stones is very good if people drink tea of parsley. I know if he succeed his fight with the stones, he will be able to make exercises or practice any sport, as he was going to gym years ago, when he was out of pains. So lowing his kilograms, I believe it will help him for the blood pressure too.
The bad things is that he doesn't like parsley also, all of his health problems are connected and somehow he doesn't like the taste of anything which will be able to help him.

I also do not like garlic. It is very good for your heart as well so I take it. But you can buy odorless garlic in capsules to take. There is also a brand that has cayenne and garlic together in capsules. You can see it here www.naturesway.com/Products/Herbs/320-Cayenne-Garlic.aspx I don't know if it's inexpensive or not. But your bf really needs to change. I'm sorry it is causing you so much trouble. I know you must worry about him. And it seems like you're doing all the work to get him healthy and he is doing nothing. Hope this helps.

hi friend, I think it is best to seek professional medical help first, but from what little I know, it's like this, 1)what type of kidney stone does your boyfriend have? If it is a uric acid stone, then he has to cut back on meat (there are different kinds of kidney stones)2) If the kidneys are bad, are you positive that it's only kidney stones and no other type of kidney disease?
I asked the questions because high blood pressure can cause kidney disease andkidney disease can cause high blood pressure although there is still debate whether kidney stones alone without kidney disease can elevate blood pressure.
My advice to you again is have him have a medical check up first so you can determine where you concentrate your planned diet, if it's kidney first or blood pressure, guess the best thing as of now with regards to diet is less or no meat, less or no salt and drinking plenty of water ( check water ph for alkalinity or acidity)cause this is beneficial for both conditions Think that will do for now till you get the medical results.

He has oxalate stones in one of his kidneys, which hurts a lot all of the time.
The other kidney has few inside, but the more of them he has in his right kidney. They look like pincushion. I really don't know what comes first as a problem. His weight is overweight since he was a kid. He has grown up bigger, but his parents were having restaurants so he was eating a lot of this restaurants food nearly all the time. So I think both things are connected.
He loves meat so much... I don't know how he would stop it. He needs good medical care, but the public medical care is not enough for him. Our medical care is not very good to be honest. I mean they will try to treat you with medications to stop the pain, but what I think would be better is to tell him what kind of food to avoid. They say the stones are built because of calcium in different foods. One of the doctors is telling him to drink one crushed lemon in one big bottle of water every day, to make his blood washy, another doc is telling him don't eat milk products ... They all say different things, but no one say what diet would be good for him.
All I know is that yesterday he went in the hospital with little higher blood pressure and after giving him pain killers his blood pressure was back to normal. I believe the stones cause little higher pressure, but he also has to loose weight and eat better.

Do you know what stage he is considered? Changing his diet will help but it needs to be for life. Later on, he could be taking medication as well. Kidney stones are supposed to be extremely painful when passed-he should definitely follow the doctors orders!
It is recommended to cut sugars, salts, saturated- and trans-fats, and to maintain a healthy weight. It's hard when they don't want to eat right!

He finds it very hard to be on diet. It must be only salads or only fruits and nothing else. I am trying to convince him to eat balanced food, not only fruits and vegetables, but he say if I cross the line of eating something else, the diet will not survive. Well, we can't afford being on vegetables and fruits all the time.
He has been on a doctor for his kidney problems. His stones has been broken twice with laser procedures last month, two times for two weeks in a row and there are still stones inside. Nobody can help him.

I just researched kidney stones and found this great article:
http://ezinearticles.com/?Kidney-Stone-Treatment---Reducing-Oxalates-Can-Help-Eliminate-and-Prevent-Oxalate-Kidney-Stones&id=4033313 (NOT A REFERRAL LINK) that might be able to give him some relief. It appears that having oxalates in the blood contributes to the formation of kidney stones. The following foods should be reduced or eliminated since they contribute to a higher oxalate count in the blood:
Foods high with oxalate:
- Rhubarb
- Beans
- Tahini
- Black tea
- Almonds
- Spinach
- Wheat Bran
- Chocolate
- Caffeine
- Sesame Seeds
- Miso

I was surprised because I thought some of these foods were good for you! It is also recommended to drink more water, although it doesn't say how much.

If they only broke the stones, the only way to get real relief is to pass them, and from my understanding, that can be quite painful. I hope that the two links I listed here can help get him some relief.

To lower high blood pressure, try eating celery, fish, broccoli, dandelion, wheat oats, black beans, berries, low fat milk, pineapple, soursop, and exercise.
To destroy kidney stones, try eating cumin. It is also beneficial to reduce hypertension. Or do Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL) in the hospital. Kidney stones will be destroyed without surgery. Lower cost.

He can't make exercises, because of his kidney pains. And he has overweight, which is hard to fight when you are in pains all the time with the kidneys and you can't practice any sport.
I think some diet will help him, but he says until this kidneys problems is not fixed, he will not loose any weight, because he can't move much.
For him it's something like unbreakable circle of bad things. I still believe some diet will help him loose some weight.

Oh now. You should really convince him to start eating healthy. He needs TLC; TOTAL LIFE CHANGE. There are healthy foods that are delicious too. For example, you can cook meat with less fatty oil like olive oil. When cooking meat, you should also add vegetables so that he will eat it too. Avoid fast foods. fast food restaurants are a big no no! It can make you instantly fat and it can make you get a high cholesterol. Your boyfriend can still eat meat but meat cooked in a different way :)

Since his taste buds are acclimated to such a horrible diet, it is going to take a real effort to get him to make the permanent changes he needs to make. However, if he doesn't make those changes, you will be needing to find a little black dress.
Start by incorporating more seasonings into your cooking. Cut back on the salt.
Still serve meat. Just slip things like veggies, oatmeal and bran into the burgers and meatloaf. Start with smallish quantities and work your way up. Eventually, you may have him switched over to split pea or lentil burgers, and he won't even really notice.
You can also try tempeh burgers. Buy a block of tempeh and cut it into squares. Fry it up in olive oil and seasonings (be generous). Serve it on good bread with his favorite condiments and whatever veggies you can slip in. This may be something to do later on, once his taste buds have started being purified.
Don't serve canned vegetables. The sodium content is high; plus, most taste disgusting. Buy fresh or frozen (check nutritional content on the frozen). Cook veggies very lightly; don't let them get mushy. That is a sure way to get people to think that they don't like veggies.
Don't bother pushing him to eat soups. Some people just don't like them. He may, however, like a good, hearty stew. If so, try making a tempeh or seitan stew (make it the way you would beef stew); just be gentle on the salt.
Still give him potatoes. Just roast them instead of letting him eat french fries. Either quarter them and toss them with a little seasoning (Italian seasoning is a good choice) or thinly slice and add a little bit of salt. You can try preparing other root vegetables in the same fashion alongside the potatoes as well.
Use olive oil in most of your cooking. In my view, the only thing vegetable oil is really good for is seasoning cast iron.
Eating healthfully doesn't require spending a lot of money. It also does not mean being stuck eating things that you don't like or suffering through food with no flavor.
