So I finally decided to treat myself and get my very first Vera Bradley item after years of lusting after one. I noticed Amazon had a great selection, and as I had a $25 Amazon gift card burning a hole in my pocket, I decided on getting the "All Wrapped Up" Jewelry box in Rhythm & Blues color. It was on sale for $24.99 and suggested retail price was $28. It came in the mail today, and I only ordered it just a few days ago! I was so excited...until i read the label: Made in China. So, the first thing I felt was outrage. Why did I pay $25 for what I thought was an American made brand. Then, because I bought it online, I felt it may be a FAKE?! So, I googled: Vera Bradley made in china, and I found a site called "inside stitch" where a bunch of other angry consumers pledged to boycott for all eternity until Vera(if that really IS her name; maybe she is as "fake" as Martha White and Mrs. Butterworth)decides to come back to the USA, where she started, before going the Outsource Jobs to China Route. I feel so stupid. I normally pride myself at bargain shopping. But, gosh darnit, if I am paying close to full price for an American sounding company and American styles, I should be paying half price at the very least if my money is going to China. At this point, I feel angry, used, stupid and thinking about making a Youtube video of setting the damn thing on fire like Clint Eastwood's Daughter did to a Birkin(although I would never never never do that to a Birkin...unless it was made in China!

I guess the question is now are there any products that are not made in China?

If you are a "bargain shopper," just about everything you own was made in China. I try to avoid buying Chinese-made products unless they are fair trade; however, that is not always possible. Sometimes, you just really need a particular item, and it isn't practical to track down one that was not made in China. Next time you want a treat from Amazon, you may want to search "fair trade." There are actually quite a few products on there that match that description--including some cute bags.

I've never heard of that brand, but I don't keep up with trends or new designers and don't often go shopping. I can understand how you feel, though. I went to the store to get a new pan and saw a couple of good choices till I looked at where they were made--China! I looked at the other things in my cart and found the same thing. I put everything back and left the store. I will save up for an American made pan, twice the cost of the Chinese product. I hate to spend the money but we have to start taking a stand to protect our country and our economy, right? I would return it to the eBay seller rather than burn it. Anger makes us very impractical! Don't throw your money away. Foreign manufacturers win if you burn that item because they still have your money (in a roundabout way) and you have nothing. Plus, the seller can continue to deceive people. I hope you'll return it rather than throw your hard earned money down the drain.

Actually a lot of American brands, including the designer stuff, are actually manufactured elsewhere. Take German BMW's for instance, they're assembled in Vietnam. Or even Donna Karan and Ralph Lauren, they source their apparel to Taiwan, South Korea and Singapore. The reason for this is because it is cheaper to do it that way. The workers can be paid less than they would be in the home country. They're the real stuff, it's just they are produced elsewhere. Sorry if this doesn't answer your question, but that's just how it is.
