Waiting to Hear

Last March I was denied my SSI due to the fact that I had two trailers...the one I lived in in John Day and the one I was living in here in Pendleton. They figured that I had been overpaid SSI by five months...erroneously (it was actually only four months) and so they deducted half of the amount overpaid from my SSD check for July and August. It has made for some major belt-tightening around here. (Can't you just see my blue face?) Well, I sold the trailer in March with a contract that finalized in June so I have been without the trailer since I transferred the title in June. I told Social Security that I had sold the trailer and they asked me to bring in receipts to prove that I spent the entire (or at least all but $2000) of the money I got from the sale. So I went to work and gathered all I could and took it over to them yesterday so now I'm just waiting to hear their determination. Personally I think it's ridiculous. I could have just not told them about the trailer when they recertified me and I would never have had any hassle. But I'm too honest, I guess. It also irks me that they didn't require me showing them proof that I owned both trailers but they do require proof that I spent all the money. So why couldn't they just look at my bank statements for the months involved and go on that? Because they are bureaucrats and heaven forbid they should ever do the sensible thing. Anyway, so now I'm in limbo waiting their decision. I pray that this is enough for them and that they will reinstate my SSI soon...and pay me for that extra month that they deducted for!

Hi, alaska! Good luck trying to get -anything- out of this government. They make it so hard for the ordinary, honest people and yet the morons and the cheats get away with everything. And you'd think that as you get older they might make things a little easier for you (I'm 64). Instead it gets harder all the time. And more confusing. It's typical that they didn't ask for proof of ownership but they sure were in a hurry to find out where the money went. Sometimes I wish I could just kind of drift off into the sunset and never be heard from again. I think your face is such a lovely shade of blue! It's very becoming. Blue must be your color. :-) Well, I hope everything goes your way with the SSI. If not you can always come here and vent. Or even if it does you can come here and celebrate. Try to have a good day in spite of the gov't. :D

LOL...you got that right. A couple years back my SSD went up by a few dollars so they had to cut my SSI by that much because I can't make more than X amount of dollars from both programs combined. Lucky for me the SSD doesn't have the stupid rule about the $2000 in resources or I would really be SOL! I know it will never happen but I thoroughly believe that our illustrious government should be put on Social Security instead of their fat cat private retirement. Then we'd see how quick they would be to cut funding for SS!

Good luck with it. SSI can be a PIA! I know that people struggle with it all of the time. The government has people over a barrel and they know it. It sucks really big time. I wish you luck and I hope they figure it all out soon.

Yes you are so right. The rule they have about no more than $2000 in resources is a stupid rule, anyway, and really...who can live like that?
