Was anyone out watching for the Perseid meteorite shower that was expected to reach its peak this weekend? Taking a look out sometime before midnight,I could see stars but nothing fast moving..and didn't go to bed til after 1am,and looked again beforehand..and by that time (Typically!) it had hazed/clouded over and there was a light sprinkle of rain! Ah,well..there's another chance tonight...

I have never seen the meteor shower. They say that Northern hemisphere observers could see over 90 meteors per hour in a dark sky on August 12 morning .I think the scene is a perfect delight to the eye.

Driving home around midnight tonight,I saw a yellowish streak of light go across the sky! I don't know if it was associated with the Perseid "shower" nearly a week later..but it was nice to see! It would have been better if I had been out in the open, standing watching as it passed, instead of driving,as I had to keep my eyes on the road and the car up ahead, but it was definitely noticable..

I haven't lately, but in years past I have, its just too hot to do it these last few summers.
One year we went out and watched for hours and saw lots of them, it was fun, but I was younger, could lay on the ground and get up from the ground back then!

I'd like to be able to lie out in a warm nighttime garden and watch shooting stars overhead..It's not cold, but warm nights are kinda few and far between here!

It's pretty clear here. Funny thing though, we're under a tornado warning. SCARY!!!!

Now THAT's not a good thing...a choice to watch stars pass overhead,or the chances of the Barn or somebody's trailer home going over you instead..

I was out looking for a bit but it was kinda cloudy here and I was only able to see one streak as it shot across the sky. My neighbors also had their back porch light on and it was pretty bright out making it hard to see the stars. I though about asking them to turn it off but would have made them mad knocking on the door in the middle of the night. So I will wait till it comes around again. I hope that I can see it better next time. I remember watching it when I was a kid and it was like fireworks a constant stream of them shooting across the sky. Now I live in the city and its hard to see the sky sometimes from all the lights.

Yep,living in a city or with streetlights all around is a major pain for eyeball astronomy..there's streetlights out front of my place, but out back there's open fields so I can get a little better view up above,,and within about a Mile of here there's open countryside with no streetlights.... very peaceful..
