Hiya myLotters and friends! He was a very healthy man in his mid-fifties. About two years ago when he got ill and his body changed a lot. We were told that he got problems with his lungs, only caused by cement powder that he smelled during the construction of one of their buildings. During the funeral last Saturday, they noticed a head lice (kuto) coming out of his nose. So the people in the funeral wondered, how the lice lived inside the coffin after 10 days? And a story revealed that he was "nakulam", a witchcraft or sorcery that is still a belief by most of the Filipinos. What's your thoughts about this kind of Witchcraft or Sorcery? ~~~ NEILâ„¢ ~~~ 20120813 0955H

I think witchcraft make for interesting stories, movies and reading but I do not believe it at ALL. Witchcraft plays off of peoples fears and that is why some folks swear that it exists. It not my place to judge but for me it is pure myth, something to read about, wonder about but is pure nonsense.

I really have no idea but bugs can get in the tiniest of places and just because the coffin was closed doesn't mean it was airtight. Even if it was airtight there could be a tiny crevice creatures slip through. Lice are really really tiny. Also just because a body is embalmed doesn;t mean a spot could not have been missed. You know the body if full of places that the embalming fluid may not reach. I really do not know, I am just saying that I don't think it impossible for lice or any creature not to gain access to a decomppsing body. I feel really bad for the family though- can you imagine how they must feel.

i also do not claim believing in witchcraft. and i also could agree with your observation about the bugs, could penetrate inside the coffin.

that could also be possible, simplyd. it could be from another person who had that live head lice on her scalp and that when she visited the wake and viewed the to body, and the lice flew down the coffin and looked for a small opening that got it through.

Hello my friend neildc Ji, Well, I do beleieve that tehre is something like thios craeted by Almighty, but personally, I do not pay any heed to such things. I remained alone, while my hubby was out to forward and field area during his army service career and lived alone with small three children, at nights I used to listen all sort of unwanted ugly hovering / dogs barking/ owl howling. But that never downgraded myu feelings and I always fought internaly to face such things. Let's not give much imporatnce. We can think of all creatures with body and soul and not alone sole without body. May God bless You and have a great time

what i believe is there is nothing like this created by the Almighty but they are acts of the evil. i also do not heed to this kind and what i believe is only that i see or hear. of course my belief with the Almighty is different.

Hello my friend neildc Ji, Everyone has his/her own belief and why to argue that why does not have same like others. But there is a saying if there was a fire , so there was a smoke, in fact smoke comes before fire. So there has to be something of this nature, We will have to belief when such souls take shape of body. Thetre have been lot many haunted houses all over the world. So it is question of one's belief. May God bless You and have a great time

I think witchcraft is among us, but I don't use it to explain anything that can be explained by science.

It is pretty interesting knowing this kind of stories still exist in our modern times. As a child I was a strong believer of those kinds of beliefs but nowadays as I grew older I feel these stories are just urban legend stories roaming around. But now I read your story again and made me think if this really is true. I do not know how to answer you now...? From what I know you only say that you have been bewitch if someone is angry at you and wants to curse you.

Oh that is sad that these practices still exist today. I wonder why the quack doctor wasn't able to locate the witch. There are good quack that could stop the bewitchment of certain people and could counter its effects. But I guess it could have been better if a medical doctor was able to check it since it might just been medical that could have prevented all of this. Sometimes it could only be proven as caused by "kulam" when medical science could not find anything wrong with the patient.

with your comment, i believe you also and still believes in this kind of myth or urban legend as they say... to continue the story, they said the quack doctor they've been to, told them that he really believed he was cursed. he was given the type of medication and his health improved. but when they came back to Cebu, the medication stopped and he got ill again. the quack doctor added that he can do some medication but could not fight back the "kulam" by counter-curse... going back to medical practice, as said by the wife, he had problems with his lungs. when they were still constructing the buildings, the doctors said, cement powder stocked up in his lungs that caused him to get ill. there were medications given but his body never brought back to normal, he was thin as we could not imagine. he was sent to the hospital the day before he expired when he suffered difficulties in breathing. they spent a lot of money for the medicines alone, about 200K pesos. but the doctors told the wife, that they could not do anything more, despite giving him the limit of medicines, due to diabetics complications. of course, the story of the curse or the witchcraft was never revealed to the doctors.

About the story of the head lice, how could you possibly explain it? How could a pest or something could live inside a close coffin with a boy inside live for 10 days?

eastern part of the visayas, i heard. but we can never tell, the incident happened in the western part and the probable culprit hails down down south in the mindanao. anyway, sorry but there are really some things i do not believe in, unless and until i see it personally with my own two eyes.

My brother- evil things do happen and witchcraft is an act of evil things. Well, I just laugh on such thought it's all crap I know but even the BIBLE tells that evil people practice witchcraft.

I find it very interesting. I once knew a white witch and she seemed to make positive changes with people who were ill. It doesn't frighten me at all. As a Zen practitioner myself, I follow the precepts of non-interference with the religion of others. _Derek

it's not really frightening when you go to them when you are ill and want to get better. but it's frightening when it actually happens with our loved ones...

I can't say I believe in witchcraft but neither can I say that I don't. But there's one thing that I believe and that there are things in this world that science can't explain. Case in point is that I don't see ghosts but there are colleagues who can and they can even explain the ghosts appearance in detail and they have the same description.

I suppose a lot of it has to do with your beliefs and your family background. I am from Pa. in the US. I was raised as a Lutheran most of my young life and even had my children baptized Lutheran. I am now however Pagan and proud of it. I suppose you could say religion disappointed me. Churches disappoint me. I do believe that a person can cast spells with results if they want it bad enough. I would rather use it for good or for my family as compared to doing someone real harm....it would have to be something very serious to make me consider doing harmful magic. I know in other countries theres still persecution for witchcraft....I am glad I live in the US. That doesn't mean I flaunt what I do...I just enjoy the freedom of my religion in my own home. I think there are things that cant be explained and people with abilities that cant be explained. It is the way of the world.
