MC have confirmed the signing of midfielder Jack Rodwell from Everton. He is the first new player of MC this summer. I dont think MC really need a midfielder as Rodwell at this season but he will be an investment in the future. The club`s managers and Roberto Mancini have planed a long-time strategy. Good luck to them!

Another young potential English player gone with a gross amount of money. Another one would be Joe Allen, thou he is a Welsh. I don't understand the hype over players from the Great Britain. Compare their prices to someone like Podolski, who is much cheaper and has more than 100 caps with his national team.

I agree, the prices being paid are insane, but that's football these days. The issue here for City is that they need to keep and develop a significant number of players who are English, per the requirements of the prem. league. There aren't a lot of super talents coming through in England. I think Wilshire has some talent, so does Ryan Bertrand, and likely Danny Welbeck, also as a City fan I think Danny Sturridge has a great future, but he's left for Chelsea... in any case, Mancini and Marwood saw an opportunity to get a versetile player, young, with great potential. He won't play much this year for the first team... he may need a couple more years at least before he breaks into the first team, but when he does he could be a world class player. He can also play midfield positions and defense, he has good pace and good technical ability. Podolski is a great finisher, but that is comparing apples and oranges.

Mancini was not happy with the lack of buys during this transfer season. And Jack Rodwell might not be the one to really please him at this moment as the buy of the season. Rodwell is a good hard working midfielder but whether he will be able to hold his own with the likes of Toure, Nasri and Barry is questionable. I think he is a long term replacement for Barry as the Englishman seems to be losing his pace each season.
Cheers!
