Choices

I have been thinking more and more about choice. It's true that we make these all the time, from the time we get out of bed until the time we go to bed we make choices. But do we make these choices by free will? Or have we from the time of birth been programed to make the choice we make? In other words is it involuntary. Dictated by culture, race, wealth and many other outside influences. I like to think I have this much control, but I am afraid that what I choose is just part of a great computer program written by someone or something else?

I think most of the actions I make in the day are made by what I call my automatic pilot. They are the routine things we do every day. And when I think of it, routine takes a great part of my day. Was it a true exercise of free will when I fell in love? I doubt it. But learning to be patient, tolerating and respectful was, I guess, done by my free will. In many things though we are programmed by our culture and so on. I tend to think that my grandchildren have too many material things and do less exercise than they should, but then I grew up in a world where presents were given on birthdays and Christmases (and not many either). And we played social games such as hide and seek and so many others instead of sitting watching TV or playing with a computer. By the way, although now my only toy is this computer: "Hurray for a world with less technology and more humanity!

I think that we are allowed to make our own choices, but no matter what, destiny will have her way. In the end it seems that no matter what choice you make destiny will make it have the result she wants.

Hi savypat, It really is a great mystery isn't it? There is no doubt in my mind but that our choices are often dictated by culture, race and wealth, along with a few other things.I tend to think that there is a plan for our life before we are born but also that we were a major player in that plan. I don't think that we meet anyone by chance, we've known all these people before. What is not decided is our reaction to the things that happen to us, and that's where free will comes in. You have chosen who you will marry for example, and as we all know all relationships have their problems but some last only a few months and others for 60 years or more. The decisions we make, how we work things out out, or even if we try to make it work at all, are our choices. There is more to it than just being in love, most people are in love when they get married. It is the same with the people we work with, the friends we make etc. We can also make the choice as to whether or not we are going to be happy. Blessings.

I think that there is a lot of truth to the programming thing. I believe that we have been programmed by our society and culture to make certain choices. It doesn't so much dictate what we want as much as it dictates what we have to choose from. That is where the control comes in. Programming starts at birth with pinks and blues. Parents teach their children what is acceptable and what is not based on how they have been programmed. This is certainly a deep subject once you start thinking about it.

I tend to believe that the majority of the choices that we make in our life are something that is done of our own free will. However, I do think that there are a lot of different variables in our lives that will influence the way that we make the choices that we make in our lives. I think that our upbringing makes a big impression on the choices that we make in our lives. In addition to that, I also tend to believe that experiences that we have had in our past has an influence on the choices that we make as well.

We make choices out of reasoning and knowledge so, one's choice may differ from another depending on one's perspective. In general, there are standards in making choices. Good luck in making your choices!!!

Personally I would say many of the choices we make, or will make in our life is because of FREE will and being able to choose what we think is best for us. When we were younger, many times it was based on family. But unless we continually are allowing others to reign over us, and never choose on our own, it is up to us. Many times we will make mistakes, or wrong choices, but it is up to us from there to pick ourselves up, maybe pray about it a little more, and hope for the Best from there. Just remember to never give up, and always continue to strive for better.

If you are still below 18 years old, maybe you can't choose what you want. Your parents will make decidefor you. You don't have any choice. However, there will come a time that you will choose what you want. When you're already mature. After university maybe. You will apply for a job and so on. When you marry, you will be deciding with your husband. So the decision lies on you both. Happy myLotting!

When I think of it hard and deep, our choices actually doesn't truly come out of our very own free will. You are right that these choices are actually driven by some force, affected by society, forced by nature and unexpected events in life. We are made to believe that we are in control but in the end, we all end up with what our destiny has been designed for us.

making choices is passive sometimes.but whenever i believe, don't let choice make you, you make the choice, even if it will be hard and difficult to be realized.people are different from culture, wealth and so on like you say.but the right to decide our own fate is equal.don't mess up or think it compelicated.

I am in complete agreement with you. We are always governed by the situations around us that make us what we are. And what we are governs what choices we make. The human mind has created the society to keep our free will in check. But as a whole we feel that we are in control as long as another person does not seem to control what we do.

Choices is a choice. Lol! Select the best out of the best and take responsibility what ever decision (choices) you make. That is life.

I too have been thinking about choices. I think we have been programed to make choices naturally, weather they be good ones or bad ones, they are still choices. It's natural to make choices and we do it involuntarily. For example making the choice to get out of bed or to stay in and try to fall back to sleep. Also the choice to have cake or fruit as a dessert. I do believe that we make the choice but every choice we make adds to the path of life that we have. I do not believe that we are a part of some great big computer system created by someone or something else. :)

I think we are sort of pre programed. I mean as we grow up we become programed. We learn from out parents, our environment and society as well. but I still believe we make those choices ourselves. We do not have to make them. But we as humans do tend to go with choices that we seem more comfortable with. And that comes from what we learned growing up. Anything outside those parameters makes us uneasy.

Really, we make choices everyday, even the simpliest activity. I believe that in making those, we should think and re-think if this is a good or appropriate action. And we must also be ware of its possible consequence. I think, we make our own life, it's like having a masterpiece that we must do our best to make it right and bright. Thanks and Good luck.
