Any tips for writing fighting scenes?

One thing I just can't seem to get right is writing any kind of fighting scene. Now, I love writing; I roleplay quite often and occasionally write little short stories on the side. I've even joined NaNoWriMo a few times, and once succeeded in writing 200,000 words in a month (a very crappy 200,000 words, mind you). One thing I've never really gotten the hang of is fighting and combat, though.
I feel like these scenes should have a combination of sentence structure to convey the tense situation, and at the same time have enough description to enable the reader to envision it. I've only ever been able to do one or the other- If I try to make the situation tense, my sentences are too short to convey much description. If I try to describe everything, things tend to drag on too much and the scene becomes far less suspenseful.
Any writers out there with any tips?

Be concise and descriptive. Make your sentences quick and fast paced just like how fight scenes are.
