Did anybody else notice how warm the Atlantic is?

I know that there's the theory about global warming, and I also know there's a theory that global warming is a conspiracy theory. But this year when I was on vacation on the Jersey shore (Sandy Hook) and I dipped my toes in, it was WARM!! It was great, in fact the air felt cold when you got out. But it did make me wonder.
A friend at work went on her vacation to the Jersey shore (Ocean City) so I asked her what she thought about the Ocean temperature and her eyes got big and she says "I'm so glad you said that!" because apparently she thought the same thing.
Anybody else think their ocean water was warm this season??

You were fortunate, as this year I have noticed the opposite in the beaches close by, the water seems colder then usual for august, normally the water warms up a little but this year it is really chilly, enough to maybe wet my feet, but swimming it is too chilly for me, granted I don't like water that is too cold but still. I know it may be something wrong with the world climate, but it must be great getting into warmer water. I hope you enjoy the warm weather to the fullest.

Geez I hope those melting glaciers aren't cooling your water off?!? How odd?

I have been to the Jersey shore several times this summer, and I agree with you--the water was very warm--the warmest it has ever been, it seems. Even early in the season (June) the water was warm enough to swim in the evenings. I was very surprised. We were at Belmar/Spring Lake, and then further south (LBI). It was warm at both places. It should feel colder at Sandy Hook since it is juts further out into the Atlantic, and is a bit further north, but I guess the water is warmer all over. In fact my friend just got back from a trip to a beach in Massachusetts and she said the water felt like a bathtub. So maybe it is global warming at work.

I am so extremely jealous! You've been to the shore several times - we get there once a year. First I used to go to Wildwood in my 20s, then Cape May in my 30s, Seaside Heights a couple of times now we're going to Sandy Hook. Got pets and it's hard to get away for too long. Sandy Hook's a four hour ride from here, the rest you'd just add time. I love them all though!
This global warming does seem not so bad til you figure out what will happen when all the glaciers melt. Yikes!

Well, I live in NJ so it's a little easier for me. But the years we lived in the DC/northern VA area were tough--4 hours from the closest beach--yuck!
All of the horrible storms we have been having this summer is an example of one of the bad side effects of global warming for sure. And when the glaciers melt--good bye Jersey Shore!

We're between all the beaches but they're all about 3-4 hours away. Mass doesn't really have any except for Cape Cod but who can afford that, or even get on Cape Cod in the summer. I couldn't find many public beaches in Connecticut so New Jersey is the choice. My brother lives in VA but down by VA beach, but talk about crowds! Anyway that's all a moot point if the glaciers wipe them away.

I know that there is global warming in the world. It can indeed make the sea warmer. It can affect coral reefs which is very sad. I live in England and we are having weather hot one day then cold and rainy the next day. I love traveling to different countries and in 2004 I was on a trip to the Seychelles. The water there felt like warm bath water. I was swimming in the sea and it was delightfully warm. Cool rain drops fell and it felt very refreshing indeed. I live 3 miles from the Atlantic Sea here in England. My local beach has dangerous tides and sinking mud. Swimming in the sea there is not possible. At low tide the sea is way out.

An ocean three miles away and you can't go in! Well, actually most of the time I go to the ocean I just wade in the water. I went in when I was younger, at a beach that was so smooth, not rocky. It's hard getting past the breakers but so fun just to ride the waves. I just love being by the sea now.

I also have noticed this phenomenon and i firmly believe the golbal warming is very ture, the people who spread "the global warming is a conspiracy theory" is shameful, they must have their own ulterior motive, unfortunately, many people with short-sighted and pursit immediate interests, the sea level has been rising every year, more and more islands were flooded, more and more cities have been threatened by rising sea level,so where is our home?move to Mars?Action immediately!

I believe there are great and drastic things happening on our planet. I think global warming is just one of them but it is happening. Last month (July) was recorded as the hottest month since there have been records of that sort of thing. And here it has been near 100's and I have heard from others on east and west coast USA about the same thing ... nearly every day of August so far. So if that's true I think August will beat the July record! And its just crazy all over.

Well it would take a massive shift in people's behaviour and lifestyle for it to change anything. So I fear nothing will change. The world is set in the ways that it is and most people won't want to change the way they live.

It is scary to think of what's happening. It's just a reminder we're not in charge of it. I just wish people would wake up and start thinking and doing something to slow it down.

I never notice the ocean water get warmer at all,I had been to the beach for several time and do not find there is any different,so I think your Jersey shore is a special case, may be the temperature in Jersey is getting warmer this summer.
