Due to Youtube's new program, you can now earn money even if you don't have thousands of subscribers. I was wondering if you could post cover songs on youtube and then apply the partner program to that video. Is that allowed because it is legally owned by a company?

No you can't make money off cover songs, you don't have the permission to cover the song so you can't make money off it, because it's not your song.

@kumar It is probably one second. However, most people don't really want to watch one second videos. @Review I thought that was true. But most youtube singers sing cover songs and earn money from them. I doubt they really ask for permission from the big record companies.

You will have to ask permission from the copyright of the song first, then upload your cover to itunes, 50% of the income will go to the songs owner. Why did I know it? I did covered songs in youtube, I rely more thought with my originals. You may have no idea but you might have seen my channel before, I am not going to tell you who I am but yes you can earn with song covers in youtube but you have to ask permission. Yes there is a way to get license. there is a website known as rightsflow, it helps itunes and youtube cover artist gets licenses to cover songs,
