I have been a stay at home mother for almost half a year now, and I'm happy that my former subordinates and work friends, still reach out to me to ask for my advice on career issues. When they see me active on Facebook chat, they'd check on me and start a long conversation on what I could advice them on their dilemmas at work. I'm glad they still see me as a trusted and reliable mentor, leader and friend. They would consult me on what are the better steps to take on their plans for career advancements, or transfers to another department, etc. I would also gladly give my suggestions and advices but of course, I'd keep it subtle so as not to preempt what their current bosses' decisions and preferences would be.
