I saw on the news that the Australian laws now can force tobacco companies to remove branding from their packets and instead have pictures that should stop people from buying the products.
The pictures are scary about tobacco related diseases, so it may prevent some from starting smoking or make some to stop.

Will it help?
Or would it help to forbid all tobacco products?
I Have never smoked, so please tell me, if you have stopped smoking, what helped you to do it?

Why sister-in-law, the oldest one, smoked like a chimney stack and tried to stop several times even though there were warnings. What finally stopped her was that she got ALS and could no longer put the smokes in her mouth. I do not think those pictures will do anything unless the person has a sensitive stomach and would be scared of his own shadow. It would not help others to quit unless they use another method.

Well, it is sad that you lost a relative I hope the younger understand how dangerous these cigs are before they get sick too..
Maybe we can only help by being a good example for the younger ones..

i don't think so, i think it was proposed in our country once, but i don;t think it'll work since some people are so addicted to it and won't care. And most people here buy i by sticks anyway.. not per pack.

Well, obviously there must be a lot of motivation not to ever start smoking.
The parent's example means a lot, but some have not been able to stop before they ask for God's help to get rid of this habit.

yes the pictures are scary but not everyone in the world cares. If everyone in the world cared then we'd all be heather and at peace. I am happy to say I don't smoke. I hate that I have family members that smoke, and some of they don't want to quit. Thankfully don't smoke around me indoors.

No, we cannot change the whole world and make them take care of their health, we can only take care of ourselves and maybe influence at least those who have not started smoking.
As we see from the comments, those who have smoked, have had some strong motive that has helped them to change.
Its a good thing your family members don't smoke around you.

I doubt if it'll stop hardened smokers as what the governments/authorities or health organisations worldwide seem not to understand is the power of the addiction of smoking, in that most smokers are fully aware of the danger of their habit, yet are unable to stop, despite continued efforts.

It seems that nothing that others, governments, doctors or anyone else says will make some to change their habit.
It must come from themselves, due to their own decision and a strong motive.
My father stopped after 50 years as he got a motive. One of his friends was very sick and had to stop and that gave him a push to do it too.

I'm afraid it won't help with people who ate in denial. It won't happen to me attitude. I think it will help people who are actually proactive about their health.

Well, it seems they have to be really motivated and have a strong wish to be healthier.
Maybe they think that these diseases don't happen to them..
Some have got the strongest motivation from their faith in God as they want to please him.

Buena, last year my uncle decided to stop smoking due to having coughing problem. He had taken lots of cough syrup and had visited many doctors but unable to get well. He had no other solution but to quit his smoking for good. Although it takes months of suffering to be able to fully quit from smoking. Soon after he quit smoking, his cough slowly well by itself as well.

This might help, or again it might not. I'm a smoker and I know the risks and I know what I'm doing to by body. Over the last two years I have tried three different times to quit without success. What I do not think that non-smokers don't get is the addiction part, especially people who have never experienced addiction before. Also, lectures or telling us what we already know doesn't help either. So the pictures would most likely fall into that category.
