Unexpected Weather Warnings In Your Area?

Here in Southern California we expect earthquakes and unless one knocks you out of bed they don't bother us ... for the most part. But panic sets in when I get a weather alert on my cell that says ... "TORNADO warning in your area. Get out now, look for shelter!" WHAT? And exactly what do they mean with shelter? And we have no ditches, thank you very much. Have any whacky and unusual weather alerts in your area?

Yeah, the big earthquakes are no fun at all. It's best to be prepared for those. Unfortunately, we can only prepare ourselves for what comes after the quake. Be safe now.

Actually, we keep getting notices on the television about power outages and to reduce our usage. I find them to be scary because its been so hot in my area now. I'm not sure how people would survive in their hot homes with no power.

Yes, it reached 107 degrees Fahrenheit here. No power outages yet. That's a blessing. We turn our air off around 9:00pm and open all windows. It doesn't work when it's still hot outside but it's getting better. It's awful when the power goes off. Good so far though.

I am more alarmed when we have earthquakes here, because there are no warnings. I would be really disturbed if we had a flood right now because things are really dry. Tornadoes. . . I grew up with them. Mostly, if you do not have a basement, go to the most interior room in your house, preferably one with no windows. Get in the bathtub and pull blankets and pillows around you. Driving in your car? DO NOT shelter under an overpass. If you can, pull over and go inside a building.

You know I think it would be pointless to have earthquake warnings because we're shaking here all the time. Or at least, I heard, that little itty bitty quakes happen continuously. That would sound off quite a few warnings per day. I know in Huntington Beach where my daughter lives they have Tsunami warnings every Friday. The people who live there, don't even hear them anymore. Of course, that's not to say they will when it goes off on any other day than Friday.
Anyhow, thanks for the Tornado tips. We don't have basements here for fear of earthquakes, lol. Didn't know about the bathtub tip. Good to know. Unfortunately, I know it's strange but our bathrooms have a lot of windows. We do have a very good laundry room in the middle of the house. That's where we decided to take shelter. The tornado would have to rip through 3 ceilings to get to us. Thanks again.
