Depends on how you define "exploitive".
Everyone exploits everyone. If I buy something from the store, I'm exploiting the store. I want that product, and I am using the store to get that product I want.
That's exploiting the store. The store is also wanting to sell the product for money. So they are exploiting me the customer.
Everyone exploits everyone. It's very normal and good.
Girls tend to want to be the center of attention, and want to join the competition to show off themselves. The competition of course get's money for hosting the competition, and uses the girls to do that.
Both are exploiting the other to get what they want.
Now if you mean exploitive as in going to a 3rd world country, and enslaving people to get what you want... no not at all. Those girls are up there on that stage because they want to be.
I personally think it's foolish, but nevertheless, that is what those girls want. it's their choice.

I don't think that an adult in a beauty pageant would be exploiting women;however, when you start putting three year old' s in pageants that would be exploiting them. An adult has a choice to be in one or not. A three year old , on the other hand, doesn't even know what exploiting women means. If there is exploiting going on, I would think that would be considered part of the job description.

Well exploited in what sense? I really think that women voluntarily join this pageant themselves and allow themselves to show what they have. So I do not see where they are exploited. There are just people who are not comfortable with this kind of contest. But I am not ones of those. I feel that if the contest forces women to join then I guess that is exploitation of their weakness. But they are not and in fact many women are wanting to join in these kinds of contest.

What is the point of answering discussions started by people who never return to comment on the replies?

hello,
Beauty pageants are so great. They are not at all exploitative to women in my opinion. They are display of a woman's true nature and beauty. They are so beautiful. Its a medium for the whole world to acknowledge their beauty and every contestant represent their country and I think its a very big responsibility for every women participating in these contests. These things are not at all exploitative and they should continue as it is. I love to watch them and my whole family watches them.

I believe beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think all these women do try hard to appeal to the judges and the world. I believe if the women are there to just bring pride to their country and are there to have fun, then it's not exploitation. If they are there for the wrong reasons, I feel like they are being exploited.
