I wouldn't want a Munchkin cat, not because of any reason about their size or anything, but a bought cat would take a spot for a rescued cat at my house and I like to think that I'm doing a service for cats and somewhat society by rescuing cats.
They are kind of cute tho...

Though hopefully they'd be as long lived as a taller cat, right?

When these cats first came to the public's attention (198?) I read about them. It was not intentional at first on the part of the breeders. The original mother cat was a pregnant stray. But they did start to breed them them once they had been discovered. The 2 major cat associations resisted recognizing them as a breed but TICA finally did. I don't know about CFA. Although I've been to lots of cat shows, I've never seen one there. Personally I think they're really cute in a funny sort of way. But then, I think hairless cats are cute too.

I meant to say, also that they don't seem to have any health issues, spinal or joint problems as do the short legged dog breeds - Corgi & Dachshund. There have been a few cases of 2 rare diseases but these are found in other cats as well. Short legged cats have been seen off and on since the 1940's in other countries, too.

I'm not a fan of these cats. They look silly, it has to be uncomfortable for the cat, bad for their joints and animals bred for certain characteristics usually have health issues. Overall, I think this is unfair to the animal.

Thanks for the input..actually,it was the wording of the article title that struck Me as funny..I was wondering why would someone be breeding "Short Living" Cats?? Are we trying to cut down from their assigned 9 lives?

I've heard of these cats before but I've never seen the shortest one lol. They're really cute and remind me of my mini-dachshund because of the short, stubby legs. But as cute as they are, I think that breeding for this specific trait can cause all sorts of defects and potential problems for the animal. But I'm not a vet lol so I don't really know much I guess. I just hope that these animals are able to stay healthy despite the way they're bred.
