Ok. So India has won 6 medals in olympics 2012 and two of them were won by females. Has the time come for Indians to realise that girls are as capable as boys and stop female foeticide. I am deeply hurt whenever I read news about this. When would Indians realise? Please share your thoughts!!!

Education! Make education the most important function of a government. Only thru education that can change people and open up their mindsets. Keep the good traditional practices but something must be done to eliminate the bad traditional practices. If anyone does not feel that man and woman are equal, he maybe was born from a hole on the ground. Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Can't you remember the love of your mother for you?

You are right when you say education should be the important function of a government. But in recent surveys it has been seen that people from affluent classes (obviously well educated) are more into female foeticide. Dont know when the people of India will wake up.

If the reason for female foeticide is not because of their economic situation, then it is a bigger problem than I thought. The affluent people can afford to raise as many children as they like. But they still insist on just to have boys? I really find it hard to believe that there are still people who genuinely think that girls are inferior human beings. Is that really the reason for that terrible thing to happen?

Nowadays the mindset has completely changed and its all about equal treatment.nowadays no one treat them differently. But even in rural areas foeticide is done and it should be considered as a crime.only few are being reported.I always have the notion to take action against those who does it and after india's brilliant show in olympics ,everything ought to change and lets hope for the best.i believe women are empowered more and carries the entire nation's hope on their shoulder

Thanks for sharing your feeling, it really hurts me too because in India there are more than 50 crores of women and among them around 70% helps in all aspect of life, in urban areas women do work to support their family in offices and in rural area they work in the field equivalently supporting the Indian Economy but still they are neglected, humiliated, discriminated, facing violence, outrages, tortures, deaths in many form from childhood beginning as infanticides happening in the wombs to dowry deaths, and now deaths occurring due to violence against women by criminals..the thing is most of India now do not seem to be safe for woman and its a share and this is because of the political nexus with criminals and deterioration of law and order situation and huge corruption and a lot of associated problems. Some of the reasons are root to the thoughts which initiates killings of girls in wombs.I think only if the law and order situation improves in the country along with education to the women the situation may improve. But really the situation is grim.

Yes I am Indian. Tell me one thing who will make the people realise to ask the question themselves? How to change people mindset? Definately shows like satyamev jayate plays an instrumental part but still more needs to be done.

I feel female foeticide is a sick tradition. God made us all equal they why the females suffer. I think this is the reason why India is called a poor country because the thinking itself is poor then when will the people or country rise or fight the poverty. Why do this to your own people and to your own kids. I feel pity as well. I wish things would change one day. thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day ahead.

i think men and women are equal in their own way.in this modern day i were surprised there is still a sick tradition like that in the some of the country.there is not one of religion will ever accept that tradition.everyone has human right, the right to be alive.the only Ones who can take people life is God no one has a right especially human.i feel pity for the women out there,i hoped that kind of tradition will diminished from this world

Religion nowadays is man made. Greed is taking over human's intellectual power to distinguish between good and bad.

Well if you consider the reality there is only one medal winner from girls and that's only Mary Kom and about Sania Nehwal she won because her opponent was disqualified of torn muscle. If that had not been the case then only one women olympian had been there.

Correct. But end of the day the bronze medal winner is Saina Nehwal only :)
