I don't know about the rest of you, I find it annoying when I try to read someones post and it is full of text messaging short cuts or abbreviations. When I see a post that is text messaged I stop reading it and move on to the next post.
I don't text message enough to know what all the lingo is about, nor do I care to learn. I personally think it's rude that people do that here.
Another thing that bothers me is all the misspelled words. There is a spell checker here use it. If your word is underlined in red then it's probably spelled wrong use the spell checker to correct it. All you have to do is put the curser over the word right click and it will give you the correct spelling or suggestions. Also please put spaces between your words, its so difficult to read a post when most of the words are run together.
I don't know about the rest of you but I try to make my post readable so you want to come back and read more of my post.
OK fellow lotters what's your take on this. Looking forward to your response.

Well, people still make spelling mistakes even when they have a spellchecker to help them out- Your use of curser rather than cursor, for example. : P
I will admit, shortcuts grate on my nerves a bit, and I can never stand communicating with someone who constantly uses abbreviations for everything. I can't really explain why, though, since it doesn't exactly impede communication- It's more of a pet peeve that anything else.

Good Morning ! yes , we are writing everyday , therefore we should strive to write well , taking consideration the grammar and content. In some writing sites , they are so strict about this , repeated violation means you are ban. We need to develop ourselves else, writing is just for money purposes and not for self improvement and learning and this is so sad. But i am respecting everyone's right , mine is just a suggestion. Also our work is being read globally , why not then give our best shot in this way we are bringing honor to our flag.

I do find it annoying to read posts that contain abbreviations that I do not know the meaning of.
Misspelled words are annoying to read.
However, there are people who post here on Mylot, for whom English is not their first language. And, it is for this reason, that I try to read posts that contain spelling errors and other grammatical errors.
If a post is too difficult to read, I don't read it.
Have a good day!

Unfortunately, everyone hasn't had a very good education. ;)

Like you I cannot stand short cuts in writing. Abbreviations and mistakes in writing are really unacceptable. After all we do have the tools to correct what we write and as you rightly said we should use them. A language is an art and it should not be tempered with.

How do you use the spell checker? When I write the words do not turn red. I don't understand all the lingo either. It took me forever to find out what SMH was. By the way that is shaking my head. I still like to write out most of my words although I do like LOL it fits me well as you will find me Laughing out loud while reading other peoples posts.

I also prefer proper spelled out words in emails, posts. I don't mind a few text words in my text message, but only those that are easily discernible, like urs = yours. All others that just give me a headache gets deleted or I ask the sender to re-send it in human language, lol!
I admit to some typos in here a couple of times. Purely recklessness and sometimes I use my Blackberry to go mylotting (just like now) and that also adds to my errors. (Yeah Raine, make excuses, lol!)

Hello my friend violann Ji,
Well, first of all I wish to appriciate you for your daring Post. It was overdue since long. Before I go more about your poat response, I will bring some experience between my children and my hubby, who was scolding them for voilating all norms of letter writing taught by him and learnt at their school days. Once my hubby was addressed as 'Hi', that wa sthe end of his anger. He opened out to tear their sense of relationship. It is not their fault but order of the day. We have become very short. Our vision is reducing day by day. We try and work precisely without wasing our any kind of energy. But our members must think that they are not writing today's email, but composing a para with their views coming out of their inner part of heart and mind. Even after taking due precautions, I too commit mistakes, but ity can be observed from one's writing as habit or mistaken. Let's imrove and have a suitable control on our language. Some 4-5 yrs back lot of discussions mashroomed here hilighting the impotance in use of english. As we are part of International community, a little compromise was accepted from Non-english memebers, but not from English speaking and known members. Let's hope that we do improve and progress in postive ways.
May God bless You and have a great time

I also prefer reading and writing using the proper way I should. But am also guilty of having misspelled words when I'm using my tablet to type. It's more difficult to use than the regular laptop since the keyboard is smaller and my fingers have the tendency to drop on the wrong letters. Especially when I'm really engrossed on what I'm writing, I can go on typing without looking much at what I've typed just to prevent the flow of ideas from being cut. =)

Personally, I am also annoyed. People are annoyed at me because I usually request them to rewrite their messages in full. Sometimes, some people are not considerate because they have their own way of shortening their messages.
I have to sya that I usually violates the proper spelling of the words. There are times when I rely too much on the spell check or undermine the tool itself.
I do hope that you understand my response.

i also do this normal and most no of times.most of the times i prefer to type and i follow the normal english lexicon,so i find less trouble in changing it ,there is no need for me to enable the grammatical check, its like inbuilt feature for me

You have really initiated a nice discussion. I can speak for myself that I find it annoying to go through misspelled words. However, I have got used to text messaging short cuts or abbreviations. I also agree with you that people will come back to read my writing if I write without spelling mistakes and errors in punctuation.

Some people not only do it here. Especially students use short cuts in the exams. That is the truth, since they text most of the time in their cell phones, they get habituated it to it and some are not able to change it. Sometimes they do spelling mistakes as well, that gives an awkward meaning to it.
