Hi :-)
First of all, if you have good grammar, syntax and spelling skills-- eighth grade or higher-- then please avoid content mills, unless you use a pen name. The people who pay writers like me won't use writers who publish on pay per view sites, other than Squidoo-- and some are even wary of Squidoo writers unless your work is top quality. I get paid a minimum of 5.00 for a 300 word article, usually 7-10 for a 500 word and up to 15 for a 700 word article. I also have quite a few private clients, who provide me 75% of my regular income. I write 30-35 hours a week, and average 3000.00 a month, and have for a while-- but it only took me two months to get to 1000.00 a month back when I started. I get considerably more for some assignments than others, of course.
I have stopped using freelancer, except for accepting requests for my specialty skills, because of all the content mill refugees that will bid bottom dollar or lower just to work. know what 'm worth, and there are plenty of people who pay me what I'm worth. freelancer is good if you have specialty skills and a portfolio for same, as is ODesk-- other than that, it's not so good.
For those who can write well, go to iwriter.com. If you write well and write daily, you should hit elite status in less than a month, and pick up regular clients as well. You set your payment preference yourself-- mine is every Tuesday, and they are always on time, by PayPal. Constantcontent.com is good as well, but hard to get accepted to-- you need to pass an English quiz.
The important thing to realize is writing the way I do does NOT take talent, it only takes skill and practice. Anyone can do it. That being the case, why would you want to take the time to write something, put it out for pay per view,so 1000 people have to read it before you get 1.00? ALL OF YOU DESERVE BETTER THAN THAT!!
Take the time to read some of my other posts on writing-- I am here on a regular basis, and I answer private PMs as quickly as I can, and I post to answer questions as well, as often as I get here. There are so many people here at MyLot that can actually make money writing, and that includes everyone reading this discussion. it's not talent, it's practice, practice and more practice!! Don't sell yourselves so cheaply, guys-- life is too short to waste time being undervalued.

I have written mostly for Textbroker, but I see that is not an option for you. I am planning to get in touch with Crystalia myself to learn more.

Start with Triond till you'll learn how to do it right & proper SEO.
Now use this data to fix you old article & submit them to expertscolumn for the extra money, but mostly to get good feedback from the moderators.
Now turn to sqiudoo for real payment. However keep your Triond & EC account actives so:
1) you won't be depended on one site.
2) You'll have a place to publish articles that aren't suitable to sqiudoo.

There are many sites that pays you to write. Like the other contributor has mentioned, I have written for most of the writing sites using the same user name.
Basically, you will be paid based on the number of visits to your articles. The more articles you write, the more you will naturally earns.
I have been paid with my articles writing so many years ago. I seldom write now because I do not really have the time. I just write one of two in a few months of so and link them to my blogs and all.
The residual income is good and that is all I can say. But you need flair and interest to be able to write something interesting though.
Cheers.
