What are the most secure and best sites to get free downloadable software?

There are hundreds of websites that offer free software that we are in constant need. However, the same products cost a bit of good money from the manufacturing or parent company. What guarantee are there that the sites that offer these software free is not also giving a secret code to collect information from our computer? Have you experienced any thing like this?

you might be right on this that free software stole vital information from our computer but you seen that software is very much costly in market so all people are not able to buy software from the market...and if we try to give best security to our computer then this issue must be far away..thnks

For good quality and free software I'd say use linux. That's pretty much the best way to go if you don't wanna end up with a bunch of free crap. Because free in the Windows world is usually the same as crap.

http://download.cnet.com is the best site that i use to download software and provide good quality software, sharewares, demos, and freewares. all the software from CNET are from trustable source.

Since I have used most of the software download sites I would vote for http://cnet.com for unbiased software review and secure download but not forgetting http://softpedia.com for completely free and secure software download.
