What Is Your Town Famous For?

What is the tourist attraction in your town? Not the neighboring towns or cities down the freeway. There must be something in your own little town or big city that you can be proud of. When family visits from another country or state, this is where you would take them. Perhaps it's an awesome little family restaurant. Or the local farm who makes their own cheese and lets you tour their cheese factory or winery. We have a little ranch in our small town with lots of different animals. And they freely roam the many acres of watered desert land. The ranch has sheep, goat, horses, donkey, antelopes, buffaloes and zebras. Locals stop and park under the trees, have lunch and talk to the animals. Even just driving by puts a smile on our visitors' faces. So what's your little town famous for or what are you proud of?

Science Hall, Central Christian College of Kansas - This building houses the administration and many classes of this college that is associated with the Free Methodist denomination.
We have lots of lovely parks. We host a Scottish Festival in the fall, and All Schools Day in May, to celebrate all students. Next year will be the 100th anniversary. We have an attractive and vibrant downtown, anchored on one end by the Opera House, where traveling performers gave their all. It now houses ballrooms and businesses associated with the arts as well as providing a community venue for productions. It is hard to believe that in the 70's it was in such bad condition that they were considering tearing it down. The community and local manufacturers have step by step been repairing and restoring this grand old facility. We also have two Christian colleges in town. Not bad for fewer than 15,000 people.

Actually it seems that Kansas has a festival almost every weekend all summer and some in fall and winter as well. Neighboring town has biannual Svensk Hyllningsfest in October and an old Roller Mill that was powered by the river. Kansas also seems to have an abundance of small Christian Colleges.

We are on the safe side. Far beyond the 3 kilometers permanent danger zone. I think 10 kilometers. Actually, we have lots of tourist destinations in our place. One of that is the Whale shark capital, Donsol. This is also an hour ride from our place.

Yes but that was in 1967, it was called expo67, we also had the 1976 summer Olypmics as well. No baseball or football, we are the origin hockey team, the hockey players are legend, like the pocket rocket, maurice and henri richard, jean beliveau, guy lafleur, and so on. We are a hockey city all the way.

I have always wanted to go to Montreal. It looks like such a beautiful city. I have only been to Canada once, and it was only across the border to Windsor, Ontario.

I live on a island called Langeland and my town is famous because H.C. Oersted was born here. H.C. Oersted (1777-1851) was a Danish physicist and chemist who discovered electromagnetism. There is a statue of him in my town and many places around town are named after him like the Oersted park or the Oersted school. My town is also famous for the music festival that takes places every year in July. The festival is very popular and a lot of tourists visit my town during the festival. Many of them return year after year. A Danish movie called "Livsens ondskab" (The evil of life) was filmed in my town, and many people still think about that film when they hear the name of my town.

Wow, I don't even know what electromagnetism is. But it's always a reason to be proud though when a famous, and important, person is from your town. What's the name of the festival and what happens at this festival. How many bands are there and what kind of bands. Sounds like an exciting place to live.

Hello my friend gtargirl Ji, Well, may I ask you why are you keeping awake so late. I was in FT. LDR, (MIAMI) in 2003, it was different for me, compared to Nyork city, which looked like any of our busy places like Old-Delhi. Also, we never found any problem with local because of our Indian attaire (dress & behaiour). We surely felt difficult at WTC place, as tehre were no Toilets like in our country freely available. We had to walk inside some hotels for our natur's call. But we enjoyed every place. May God bless You and have a great time

Moncton, New Brunswick's biggest tourist sight is the river. The Petitcodiac river has a tidal bore that travels all the way from the Bay of Fundy to the town of Petitcodiac inland more than sixty kilometers. There are a lot of obstacles to slow it down but you can still see the wave come in twice a day. Kicks up a lot of silt so the river is always brown. Its nickname is the Chocolate River. A lot of parkland and historic sites line its banks so it is quite nice. I commute to work along it everyday.

My town where I reside now is a metropolitan cosmopolis. But here too , we have gardens, parks and all even in the midst of city buzz. There is also a tiger conservation centre and a national park. But still as days are passing by, many residential complexes are coming up eating on the greenery of my place.

I live in a Village, which is also known as "Fort of the Oaks"..there's nothing left of the fort, just the high(er) ground it commanded.. Lough Erne Nearby was used by flying boats during WW2 for bases from which they flew to protect the transatlantic convoys approaching the UK (Castle Archdale is the closest one I'd bike around)..And Enniskillen, Nearby,Was home to the Inniskilling Dragoon Regiment (The town's name has changed somewhat in the last few hundred years since it was first translated from Irish..It was known as Inish Ceithlenn (Kathleen's Island).. Captain Oates, of Scott's Expedition to the Antarctic whose famous last words "I'm going outside,I may be some time.."was an officer from this Regiment..If you look him and the regiment up on Wikipedia,it has a photo of the Castle which guarded the waterway through the town..I used to live within sight of it.Much of the tourist worthy attractions are in the countryside itself around here, not in Towns, though the Belleek Pottery is at one end of the Lough, whose ornamental china is a popular souvenir and gets exported all over... Lough Navar near Belleek has a clifftop panoramic view over the Lough..I think I've posted photos of some of the attractions on other discussions on this area..

My home town is famous for The Grand Pier which has amusements on it and I like to walk along it to enjoy the fine ocean views. Around the corner from it is an old disused pier and it is not used anymore. My home town is famous for its wide yellow sandy beach. Jill Dando was a famous lady which came from my home town. Sadly she got murdered and there is a memorial garden for her. It was made by the ground force from television. It is a lovely place for a stroll. One tourist attraction is for the big wheel that comes to my home town for the summer season. Going on it tourists can see the coastline and across to Wales.

My little town is famous for the perfect view of the world famous Mayon Volcano. We have a viewing deck that people from around the country/world visit to appreciate this natural beauty. You would be amazed at how dangerous yet magnificent it can look during an eruption. Despite the seemingly nearness of my town to this volcano, we are still at a safe distance which is why people who wants to witness it while it is disturbed stays in my town. But aside from that, my town is also famous for hot and spicy dishes. Among all the places in the Philippines, you can meet people in my town who eat chili's with everything. A restaurant even came up with Sili Ice cream which is favored with chili!

What an interesting subject and replies! My small city (65,000 people) is famous for being the birthplace of Lillian Gish, John Legend, Justin Chambers (Grey's Anatomy) and Albert Graham the founder of 4H. We also have Wittenberg University, a small but respected art museum and used to be a center of manufacturing. In fact, the area just outside downtown has huge old multistory buildings that used to be factories. They are both depressing and majestic and look so lonely, I can just imagine all the people pouring into and out of the buildings as their shifts started or ended. We also achieved a small amount of regional fame when the Ten Commandments monument in front of our courthouse was destroyed by a drunk driver's car a few years ago. We fought in court to replace it and won! Apparently you can't legally put up new expressions of Christian faith on public property but can replace those that are destroyed and have been there more than 50 years.

Wow! Researching your town's history would be a amazing. A lot of stuff to claim and be proud of. It's strange to me that we can't legally put up new expressions of Christian faith on public property but I guess that's a discussion for another time. But I am glad the people won out in this case.
