Stuck in a rut, as always.

I've been reading this lately. A brilliant blog about writing and so I decided I wanted get back to writing. But then immediately, the "writer's block" just hit me in the face. I've been trying for a couple of days but nothing seems to ooze out of this rusty naggan. Any suggestion anyone? Thanks.

I am always struggling to diminish writers block, and am struggling to do so at the moment. I have ideas swimming around my head and know exactly what I want to write about, but it just doesn't seem to happen when I get down to it, which is incredibly frustrating. I find, like yourself, blogs that focus on writing and the like tend to be more than helpful when I'm stuck. Or, I sometimes read stories/articles similar to what I am looking to write. That should do the trick. Writing should never be forced :)

Right, writing must never be forced. I've read a many articles saying the "unless one cannot not write, then don't write at all." Just as the ink freely leaks out of a pen when used, so should the writer allow his ideas to freely and smoothly leak out of his mind. Thanks you very much Dracs!

as you go about your day and you think I should write about that jot down a note to do so when you are near your computer. Writing is either there or it isn't, forcing it is no good. I find I do my best work when the words just flow.

There are a couple things I do to get my creative juices flowing again. For one I keep a journal and I don't write in it every day, however when I'm stuck and can't think of any thing to write about I just start writing about childhood memories and things that we did as a family or with friends. Another thing I do that helps is I'll take a piece of paper and just write random words on it, or get out the dictionary and pick a page and just write down words from that. Tear the paper in strips that way each word in by itself, put them in a bowl or small box shake it up and pull one out. What ever that word is I try to build a short story or paragraph around it. Works for me hope this help.

I find Mylot actually helps if you really consider what kind of writing block you have. I know it varies. For some I just write a page or three about random things that don't matter every day for a while and then it comes back.
