From yesterday's news and today's newspaper, it is becoming somewhat clear that VVS Laxman was also forced to make retirement.
Senior players in India is also not getting the respect or farewell that they deserve.
Former captain Ganguly has also criticized the act of selector and captain Dhoni.
Laxman was working hard to get back into form and play some more matches for India. he was supposed to retire at the end of this year, and he wished to end his career in a good not rather than a failed one.
India have lost continuously eight test match overseas, In these overseas tour, Laxman was also failed and he was only able to have 3 fifties. but the whole team failed, even dhoni and gambir didn't perform well their. but selectors asked Laxman to retire, taking the responsibility of overseas failure and he is also aged. when team as a whole failed, why should we blame a single player? surely in the past he played well overseas, it that his mistake?
After announcing the team Laxman was called by one selector 2 days before the announcement of retirement, and said that this is your retirement series..
Hey he has been working hard to get back to form and play against Aus and England this year and then retire.. selectors not at all do communication with Seniors??
after hearing this Laxman tried to contact captain MSD, he was not accessible!
Ganguly also criticized the selectors for this behavior and he added that, if the selectors have already told this, a senior player like VVS would not have spend months for training to play this one retirement match. He also added that a captain should be accessible to all team members 24 hours. He also added that after dropping dravid from ODI once he was surprisingly picked for a series against England and he was also asked to make retirement. With this protest retirement Laxman have send a warning message to selectors..
And selectors always asked seniors to retire saying that, they want to give chance to youngsters who can perform. Here also they asked VVS to retire considering his age also. So when a senior is not playing well and he is asked to retire considering his age, why do the selectors pick a 32 year old badrinath as replacement for VVS?
Now the aim of selectors and BCCI is very clear, a particular state influence the selection procedure and to include him a senior was asked to retire.
And LAxman retired in protest, even before playing the last two matches given to him...
I Laxman should have played those two matches, and retired after scoring some runs in this two matches..

Indian team selectors are very poor and worst.
For the last 3-4 years, I think the selector are not doing their job well.
Srikanth will always consider TN players than any other.
Also the selection committee is not fair to senior players.
Ganguly, Dravid and Laxman are clean example. Also Sachin and Sehwag has been giving rested many time without their request.
Ganguly pointed everything correctly, he was also one of those....
The current Selection committee should be changed and a new one should be made to save Indian cricket.

yes that is right, for srikanth, if the player is from CSK or TN they will get the advantage.
But surely players like aswin are really talented and should be given chance, but this kind of decision and selection is not at all appreciable.
Now Indian team is also following Australian cricket, there seniors face similar decisions. even steve waugh didn't get a good fare well.
I wish at least Sachin get a good farewell.

Retirement of VVS was a very surprising news. The thought of Laxman playing few tests more has stuck every Indian's mind. The same case was with Rahul Dravid who announced his retirement all of a sudden from nowhere. The way these senior players are getting retired is certainly a point to have a huge debate. Indian selectors are surely playing some bad politics behind all this. Also, selecting Badrinath as a replacement for VVS is not a proper solution.
The only good thing i see in this selection now is Cheteshwar Pujara is in the squad. He is a very talented young batsman and should get a chance to show his talent. I hope this politics doesn't make Sachin as it's next victim.... :( :(

yes, lets hope that at least Sachin will not face this situation.
this is not at all a good practice, this is not the way to treat a player who served our nation for years.
Otherwise selectors should always show courage to drop all with similar comparison. even if the senior, captain or the famous player, who ever don't play they should be dropped, but that is not possible because everyone may go through bad situation. and in the end only one team can win. But this kind of discrimination and send out is not good.
and as ramswamy said above, many seniors are given rest, without their asking. Earlier it was given only against small team. now the selectors have started giving rest to sachin, sehwag etc. without considering which opposition India is playing, that is also not fair.

venkit, yes this is not the right way to treat a player like VVS. Dhoni and Gambhir was also not good in the last test series. Then why the selectors fire against only VVS. I think something wrong somewhere .

If you ask me, the writing has been on the wall for the last three series. I think with the back problem and his falling performances, if a selector told him up front that we are giving you one more series so that you can retire at your home town there is nothing wrong about it. I think we get too carried away by past performances that we hardly look to the future. The upcoming series with New Zealand is the best way to groom youngsters for much stronger battles up front and it is a fact that we need to look ahead and plan. Remember we have one more big one coming pretty soon in Sachin Tendulkar which is also a matter of when and not if.
So for me there is nothing for VVS to protest about. In fact, if that is the reason why he has called for his retirement early then he got his grace awry on this one as he had a great chance to retire on his home ground which many players would really cherish!!
Cheers!

Yeah, I agree the seniors have been treated with respect and they were in the team as long as they performed. Sachin will continue as long as he performs and the real concern is his fielding and fitness. If he becomes a liability in the field the skipper is justified in demanding a replacement who can be be groomed for the future. Laxman decide to quit in reaction to certain comments and pressure from form we players and the media , not realizing that he could have performed well in the two tests before announcing his retirement. In contrast Dravid was the more mature cricketer who always was a servant of the game and never considered himself above the game.

I think selectors as well as captain Dhoni have some part behind this bitter incident. Dravid did a simillar retirement evenafter getting 1000 runs during 2011. For the bitter failure in Australian tour Dhoni was finding fault with senior battsmen, though the reason was Indian bowling side's inability to bowl out twice in a test match. Sehwag too has problems with captain's attitude.

I was also feeling something bad about the retirement issue. I have heard in the news that he may be retiring after the series against New Zealand. Then after some days, I saw in the news that he has retired from cricket. I t

It is true that V.V.S.Laxman did not play well in his last two series, and especially against Australia, other players too had their failures. He anyways deserved to play more. May be, there was some politics behind his decision to quit, even after being selected for the NewZealand series. If it is true that he was singled out for his not so good fielding, then it is a very bad thing on the part of selectors. They always knew that Laxman was never known for his quick fielding or running. They should have treated him better.
Still, I would like that Laxman has a great time ahead, and who knows one day he would come back as Indian team's coach.

In BCCI its all about politics and grouping. in these kind of categorized filed even Sachin will find it difficult to become coach of Indian team. And India always prefer foreign coaches, so I don't think Laxman will become coach..
Anyway lets wish all the very best for his future life...

The fact is that cricket is a "cash cow" for administrators. That is why such politically connected persons and even big politicians hold high posts in cricket and other sports too. Due to high competition in cricket domestically, and great players and talent, India is doing well. Otherwise, things could have been as bad as in many other sports. Look at Hockey. The mismanagement of talent and resources in India has led Indian hockey to such lows in recent times.
