Jennifer Lopez is out and Mariah Carrey would take her place. What is your opinion about choosing Mariah Carrey as the new host of the most popular tv show American Idol? Do you think she is going to do a good job, a better or worse job than Jennifer Lopez? How do you imagine her in American idol? Do you think the show will continue to have good ratings and is she going to be good for the show?

I haven't followed the American Idol for some years now, but the idea of replacing Simon and Paula is not great at all, in my opinion. Maybe it's just because I don't really like an extreme change as after all these years American Idol has always been about Simon, Paula, Randy and Ryan. They have become the perfect team, so changing them means trouble. So I think there won't be any better judges other than these first three musketeers to me.

It's hard to see which combination of judges had the best success, but I also think that the combinations of Simon, Randy, Paula would be the most memorable...for me. I forgot that Ryan also plays an important role in the show but so far the haven't changed him, so I guess there is no one better to take the role he is doing...and in my opinion he is doing an excellent job, contrary to what Simon has commented otherwise. It's possible Simon did that to try to make the show more interesting and I think it worked! People were gluing more closely to their tv set what types of verbal battles these two would put up in the show. I bet Simon knows how good Ryan is in his part of the deal in making the show great...this is only my opinion, and it can be true or not. I guess we will never know until any of them reveals the truth.

Yes...yess...Simon and Ryan's argument makes the show even more interesting! I really hope these judges will come back together again.

Yes, I would say that Mariah Carrey is in similar league with Jennifer Lopez, I'm not sure though who is a bigger star. I would say they are both one of the biggests stars in their own generations. I got a little confused here, are they of similar age or is my guess right that Mariah came from an earlier generation than JayLo and is therefore much other than her?
In terms of singing experience and talent, I would go for Mariah as the more accomplished one but this is only my personal opinion. Both of them as a singing judge would definitely be experts in judging it. One of the factors to consider is if they would be able to give interesting comments and they would become lovable parts of American Idol which is most likely the case with such big stars. They wouldn't be such big stars if they were not loved much by their viewers and fans. There, I answered my own question...

i didnt know that jennifer lopez would leave american idol. thats sad. anyway im sure that mariah will do a good job^^ actually she is in the guiness book as the best singer in low notes. so she is a good singer^^ im sure she will be nice to the aspiring idols. she understands music so for sure she will be a good judge. It is good to make changes in tv shows but im sad that jennifer lopez will leave. she is good for the show.

Yes, I wonder now why good judges like Jennifer Lopez who has been doing a great job has to leave the show. De Guardi is also fine but left. Paula Abdul, and others I can't think of for now. Is it the pressure the show brings to the judges? I bet this is one of the main reason. If you think there are other important reasons, you can share it with us.

A good judge is the one who can stand out and be able to criticize the contestants but I find that most womean do not have the courage to do so. I just hope she will keep up with the audience expectations.

I don't think I can find anyone as mean as Simon, but regardless if his comments have a high percentage of being true I think there are some moments who pushed it too much where it's too offensive already. I would say the female judges could be blunt still in a way that they would still have a heart. Especially for women, I think it's very awkward and unwomanly to be so harsh and heartless...unless they invite judges who didn't have such sweet image like Jennifer or Mariah.
I forgot to mention one judge that has some unique impact because she is so great in commenting but so so in judging about musicality...yes, it's Ellen de Generes.

Yeah. I think Jennifer and Mariah have similarities in a lot of ways. They are afraid to discourage the contestants in the show. They are not like Simon Cowell who just tells the truth right away.

I would also bet that Mariah would be careful to break a heart, basing on her personality and how I came to know her image as a performer. Yes, I would guess she would be similar to how Jennifer Lopez does her judging and commenting but with her own unique style and personality.

Mariah Carey? I think the ratings will boom, because she is a great singer and very popular, but it depends also to the becoming contestants if there are really great that would have break the record of the last contestants. Thank you for sharing, happy mylotting. :)

Good point! I think the show is not so much about the judges but more about the contestants. The judges plays a large role though in the show's popularity but they don't have all the credits. American idol have given us a lot of singers who gave us a lot to remember about...sometimes not only about their talent and their songs, but also about their personal lives, their struggles, success and victories, some funny stories and characters in the show and lots of other interesting stuffs. I would then give another credit to the success of the show to the director and the stuffs and crew who gave all their contributions to make the show as interesting, funny and exciting as it is.

I think Mariah Carey will do great as a host on American Idol. She has a good heart, great singer, knows her ethic background well and knows alot about the music industry. She will pick the good people and know how to criticize well and give good pointers. I am looking forward to watching Idol this year with her being one of the host, should be very interesting.

There would definitely be no question about her singing ability. Anyway, it's possible she may have more difficulty in the area of judging, or maybe not. Let's just see if she makes it through the rain of the upcoming pressure given to her as the next judge of the highly popular tv show The American Idol.

Yes, I would bet most people who knows about the show likes or loves it. To me, I can't imagine other artists now who could well replace Jennifer Lopez but I think Mariah is a good bet that could possibly make the show as interesting as always. As you said, let's wait and see...

Is it really true they have chosen Mariah as the replacement judge. Wow, I'm not sure of that. I might just have to skip over the show next year. I'm not actually a fan of hers and I can imagine the kind of bland reviews she'll give the contestants. She doesn't seem like she can up the ratings to me at all.

What you're saying now is possible. I guess it's just a wait and see what happens when the next American idol arrives. To be fair with Mariah, she has been one of the biggest icon of her era if not the biggest and in my honest opinion I think she has a great potential to make the show as interesting as the previous American Idol with different female judges. It seems like it's only Yo-Man dog Randy Jackson who is the most stable of all the judges. One possibility is that the more intriguing the judges are, the more possible the judge would become a hit. Let's look at Simon Cowell, how many people dislike him because of his no-holds-barred comments. Once again, I think with Mariah everything is unclear until we see her show her 'stuff' in judging and showing if her personality and style would fit well as the newest loved judge of American Idol...or hated. WHATEVER! LOL
