As an English major, I've come around some Shakespeare (I'm not a native English speaker, so it wasn't that thorough, though). I've read quite a few of his works. I loved Hamlet, Macbeth, The Tempest, and as the romantic I am, Romeo and Juliet. Maybe it's The Tempest which interested me the most, mostly the Caliban-Ferdinand comparison, especially as it appears in one of my favorite books, The Collector.

On the basis of "The Tempest", could Shakespeare have been a Freemason (There are parallels with the Magic Flute, which is known to be Masonic in origin)?

Yeah the little details that I remember from hamlet. There does seem to be some hidden mason origins.

Hi Lauren, we usually don't go by our real names on here for security and privacy reasons. Anyway, I'm Rogue, and I recently earned my BA in English Literature and Language, and I am currently working on my MA in English- Rhetoric and Composition, Literature, and TESL. I love Shakespeare. Two of my favorite William Shakespeare plays are "Hamlet" and "A Midsummer Nights Dream". I love "Hamlet" because of the psychological aspects of the story, and I love to see Hamlet's "decent into Hell", so to speak. I once had to play Gertrude for a final in my Shakespeare class and I love every minute of it. The Hamlet in our group really got into the character, and even got a little violent, but it was all in the name of theater.

That is very note worthy that you have a MBA in lit. I know some Shakespeare but I am a little rusty. But I would definitely be interested in putting more imput and maybe learn something new.
