Lately I've had a weird skin problem. I tried to self medicate it but it didn't work and it worsened so I decided to pay a visit to the dermatologist. I was diagnosed with skin asthma. The doctor told me that what I'm experiencing is a symptom calle "pityriasis alba". She prescribed me with hypoallergenic soap, shower and bath oil, and physiogel. It was expensive but I'm really glad I went to the dermatologist. I hope this itchy weird spot will go away soon.
How about you guys, have you visited your dermatologists? For what reasons?

In fact I did, last week. Well, it was a skin beauty clinic that has a dermatologist consultation for free. I have acne problem.
I wish I didn't go, she was not a dermatologist in my opinion, she is just a seller! Once I entered, she asked me: are you going to buy the products?
I didn't know what I should say at first, then I started with: aren't you going to check first my problem? Is it serious? Does it take long to fix? Is there any other option than buying the products?
I know she works for a certain product, but I expected her to be a dermatologist first before a seller!

Well that's too bad. I guess some people are more into earning money than helping others out. I think you should go to another dermatologist. One who is in a hospital not in a beauty clinic.

I used to be scared of hospitals too but you'll see it's not so bad. In our place the dermatologist has her own clinic inside the hospital.
By the way, what makes you scared about the hospital?

I have not personally but two of my children have or have had eczema. My oldest son had it when he was young and my 2 year old has eczema now. I have never heard of skin asthma. I am glad you went to the doctor. Take care of it.

I have heard of eczema a lot. But I'm planning to delve deeper as only the name is familiar.
I'm also glad I went to the doctor. I was worried that I caught something contagious. Thank heavens I didn't. Thanks a lot for the concern.

I have never had the chance to because I have been able to take care of rashes and allergies with the help of over the counter medication or with the local doctors help. A few people I know have vitiligo and they go to dermatologist every once in a while to make sure that their skin okay. To check for sunburn as their skin becomes more and more sensitive. I had never heard the term skin asthma, I should look it up. Hope you get well soon and hope you improve. Good luck.

Hmmm Vitiligo? I've heard about it in class. Is it true that Michael Jackson had vitiligo? I'm not so sure.
I hope it will be gone soon. Thanks for the get well soon wish.

I never visited a dermatologists for any reason. One of my office colegue (girl of 23 years) having some problem on her skin and yesterday while having lunch she was telling that there is small boils and marks on her face and other parts of the body and it is there fore last 5-6 months.
In fact I asked, why you are having tablets every day alongwith the sweet, and that time she was telling this. I don't know you both have the same problem and my friend was telling that she got some skin allergy.
Now I will as her is the same pityriasis alba for her also and what medicine she is taking for it.

Well I think she might be taking antihistamine. But my doctor only prescribed me moisturizers to stop the itch. Tell me if she's taking antihistamines and if it works. I'm planning to self medicate.

I have visited a derma when I had this bad sunburn on my forehead. At first I thought the pain and burning sensation will subside after a few days but it didn't so I decided to consult a dermatologist. Good thing I didn't hesitate further or it would have worsen.
Anyway, I'm glad to hear you also got into the derma just in time. I have a friend who also got skin asthma and its very treatable. Next time though I wouldn't try self-medicating. The skin is one of the most abused and neglected organ of our body and I've learned my lesson on how to be more wary of any skin condition that I may have at an early stage.

Well I've surely learned my lesson. But do you think it's okay if I do an adjuvant therapy. I mean I will follow the doctor but also self medicate alongside? I'm planning on taking antihistamine it is for allergies and I know it's mechanism of action very well.

Iv'e never tried to visit of dermatologist but my sister did it. She had a dark spot problem on her face and she decided to consult to the dermatologist. The doctor gave her a very expensive product but so far its effective. And now she had a flawless face.

Was it freckles? I have small dark spots on my face and I want them to go away too. I guess I would ask my dermatologist when I visit next time.
