This is the second richest country is the world, but its not popular as the mainstreamly popular countries like UK, US, Japan and China. Unless you are from Europe most have us dont have much ideas about Luxembourgish culture. This country is richer than US, Australia,Japan andother first world countries. I actually think that some poor countries are more known than Luxembourg. It is such a small country but its very wealthy. from what I know this country speaks languages, Luxombourgish, German and French. I have no idea about their cuisine but I would like to know about it. This country currently crazes my curiosity. This country is said to have a low crime rate and low poverty rate. It also rarely have less natural disasters. Its amazing to see how such a small country be so rich and progressive. I saw a tourism video of this country in youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Iv4hje2rKo and I am amazed on what I see, No pollution at all. There is a balance between nature, History and modernization, Modern cities and Old cities being surrounded by trees. This is my question, Why a country so rich be so hidden and unpopular?

They're not really unpopular, more unknown. A friend of mine worked there a summer, she said it was like a German suburb, everything was very safe and sligtly boring. Also, I don't think how rich a country relates very closely to how well-known it is. Everybody knows the big countries, like the US, Russia, India, China, but their BNP differs quite a lot I think. If I got a decent job in Luxembourg I'd move there, but mainly because it is so close to the rest of Europe. Which is also one of the reasons it wealthy I guess :-)

That richest as in highest capita per inhabitant, isn't it? I've always doubted how much that say about how rich a country really is, you'd have to know how the money is distributed. Here, it's mainly the state which has the money, I suppose in Luxembourg it's also the state but probably also the banks. I think both Qatar and the Emirates would be too warm for me, but then I'm slightly suspicous to the whole Middle East for climatic reasons. Too dry and too warm :-) BTW, I'm pretty sure there'd be quite a lot of Norwegian who couldn't place the Philipines on a map, but they should have paid more attention in school ;-)

I have a cousin who said that if you will go to the middle east, you better grow a beard, Apparently in that region some men see men with shaven faces as women, some men with shaven faces have traumatic experiences there. recently I met a Canadian who thought Phillippines is from South America due to people having Spanish last names and tan skin.

I think most people who knows Luxembourg exist is from Europe, but I know for sure there are people in the world who doesn't know Philippines exist or they know it exist but didn't know its in Asia. But I am intrigued with Luxombourg as its either the Number 1 or Number 2 riches country (sometimes Qatar takes the number spot, sometimes they beat Qatar) Since I am from Asia. I have almost zero knowledge about Luxembourg aside from getting the number 1 or 2 spot as the riches country in the world in Forbes. there are also poor countries that are more famous than Luxembourg due to either being a Tourist destination or some controversy. Anyway your country is the 4th riches, 3rd place I think is Singapore. for some unknown reason i am not comfortable in visiting Qatar. If I will go to the middle east, I will prefer United Arab Emirates.

Yes we are the second richest country in the world but not everyone is rich. Most people think that if you are from Luxembourg you are rich, that's not the case, it is true that someone who works in Luxembourg earns more that if he would work in another country. But that's because the prices and taxes are higher here. I'm from Luxembourg and I like the country, it's a very good country if you live here and earn money but as a tourist you often don't have enough money to do a lot here. Our minimum wage is about 2100 Euros, that's about 2500 US-Dollars. We have some places that are worth to visit tho.

You still have better lives than people from Alabama or Nebraska and people from developing countries at least. If you retire in a place like Thailand, You will be living in a mansion..

Well, at least they enjoy the peace and the good life. Nobody will drag them into trouble because they not well-known and they don't get blamed for some issue or another. It's good that some people or culture has a mindset that just because you are rich, you should proclaim to the world that you are one.

they are one of those under the radar rich countries, USA is one of the most popular rich countries but it has high poverty rate while Luxembourg has only 2% poverty and its the 2nd richest country (sometimes its even number one). they dont try to get attention. their Royal family and government is doing a great job.
