Where's My Money?

United States

I went to visit my fiancee yesterday. I was talking with his mother. Out of the blue, she asked where her money was? She still expects me to pay her rent every month. I have not lived there since June 5th, 2008. Her second youngest son kicked me out becaues he could not stand the fact that I stand up for myself and his older brother! I pay rent for a room so I can work. I get food and have bills to pay every month. I told her the only way I would pay her rent is if I live there. She was stunned when I said that. Why pay rent to someone when you no longer live there? If she really needed my help then she should have told Tony that it is not his choice on who lives there! She and her late husband bought that house. As far as where I live, I am much better off. I am happy and successful in my writing and everything else I do.

you did the right thing by going to her ,approaching and asking it out rather than being silent and doomed.make sure she returns the money and try to be stern for your needs

She had $1,000 saved for me. I tried to get it but she claimed not to have saved any money of mine.

ask her directly, if she needs any financial help. although you have problem with her. she is still your fiancee's mother. if she really need your help, and you can afford it help her out. but you point of view is also correct, if they kicked you out, and you are not staying there, you are not having a good relation with them, why to pay the rent. but if they are in serious need for financial help, do help them. just for the sake of your fiancee. just to keep him happy.

My fiancees mother is retired, is his payee. My fiancee has grand mall seizures and has shown me he knows how to handle his own money. She uses his to pay bills, which is ok, but she needs to save what she does not give him every month. She has other grown kids that can help. I would not mind, but this is not her first time for telling me where is her rent money.

Maybe she needs financial help that why she is saying this, its' impossible that she did not know that you have not been residing there for years now anyway just ask her maybe she needs it for something important like meds or something she needs to pay for.

Since you were kicked out even if you had a lease agreement you would no longer be under any obligations to pay. I don't understand why she is even asking you for that. As long as your fiancee is on your side on this I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

When you say that you pay rent for a room to work in, do you work at her house?

What you did was right. Wouldn't take a genius with a degree on rocket science for that bit of common sense. She should have just asked you outright if she needs help or something but definitely she shouldn't pull something like that on you.

Wow. Why would anyone expect someone pay rent when the person doesn't live there anymore? Pure greediness and complete obliviance to law and manners...

I believe you don't to pay the rent when you are not staying there anymore. How can she do that to you. You did the right thing, don't let anyone take advantage of you. thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day ahead.
