If I were you, I would worry first if my dog has something physical that make him sensitive in that area. Maybe he is in pain and when you tried to rub his belly/back you hurt him. Visit the vet first. If the vet says everything is OK with his health, than you seem to have a big problem there! If your dog bit you while you were petting him, this means you don't have the slightest respect from your dog's part. He thinks he's in charge over there and you will have bigger problems if you don't address this behavior. I suggest you to contact a dog trainer to help you gain your place in the family. Your dog must respect you and he should never bite you.

Seek medical attention ASAP, rabies is dangerous, it becomes irreversible once the symptoms start to show. Even if the dog is vaccinated, that bite could also be loaded with bacteria, you might also need anti tetanus or a booster if you have one already.

Well,if your dog is vaccinated, there is little worry.Problems start if it's not vaccinated. I got bitten 5 years ago by a dog who had rabies. Not only that I had to have injections(not in the belly[yay!],as they were made until little time before the incident;in the arm) and extra care because the dog took a consistent chunk of my leg, exposing the gastrocnemius muscle, and hitting a nerve there. I am well today.Aside from some weird movements of my leg when walking(but you can barely see them) and from a very subtle limp,I am Ok. Hope you got out cleaner than me.

good thing you survived that....attack... anyway, my dog Dufus, doesn't have rabies so I'm ok, aside from the pain. Have a good one.
