Give a man a fish....

"If you give a man a fish, then you feed him for a day.
If you teach a man to fish, then you feed him for a lifetime."
People have been using this statement (and many variations) to justify their thoughts on social programs in the U.S. and it has become more than obvious that people don't understand a lot.
Now in every country of the world, you have system cheaters. I mean there is always some person who wants to cheat the system... ALWAYS.
However, it is amazing how many people will quote that and only stay within it's narrow mindset.
When will people start thinking outside of the tiny box they put their thoughts in?
Every time I see this statement, my thoughts are:
What if giving that fish allows the person a foundation to start to work up in life?
What if you taught a man to fish, but unlike some people the man has barely been able to catch one?
You can teach a man to fish as much as you want, but people still fall on hard times. If they fish aren't biting then they aren't biting. This man can work his behind off and still not make enough to cover bills, healthcare, put food on the table, and much more. When this man needs help and you have already taught him how to fish, most would turn their back on him and say "Well he was taught and I didn't tell the fish not to bite." or in more commonplace terms. "I didn't tell his company to get rid of his department, lower hours, or ship his job overseas, etc."
Has this saying become nothing more than a selfish person's way of being selfish by using a saying that in these times means little more than to teach a man to work and hopefully he will be able to find a job?
In my opinion, you should not keep giving fish to those that are able but refuse to learn.
However, giving fish to those that are unable and those that have learned and not been able to catch should not be something you are against because there are some cheaters in the system.

Yes, you are right
Some charities are contributing to the work of a small project for those in need instead of giving them money in their hands, the money may be spent in a day or two, but the project, will continue to supply the needy for his need.
Learning skills, and how to do our best, for gaining our money, Will create an individual of another human being knows how to depend on himself and keep him out of the question the need of others.

Hello, I also think the same way you have been thought. We should not expend our money to feed a person. Because it is not possible to feed a person for long time. Rather we should try hard to make a person capable to earn money to become self-sufficient at his/her own. Have a very nice day.

I guess you can say that if you give someone an inch, they will take a mile sometimes. I don't have the answers to how to employ every man, woman, and child. There are many good reasons for having skills (learning to fish). The economy is not always favorable for the prosperity of everyone. There is something comforting to having something to call your own. You can take your skills with you if you are able to work in another town or country. But, if one does not make an effort to learn how to be independent, he or she is left sometimes without the willingness or know how to try. There are not always answers to economies and systems, but one can learn how to answer how they choose to survive.

Hi Aidalily, you have given so nice advice. Actually it is a proverb. It is not possible to feed a man or woman for long time without any work. We can help a man/woman for the time being but if we can teach him/her how to earn and make him/her capable to earn, then it will last for ever. It would be a permanent solution. Everybody should try to follow this proverb to remove poverty, illiteracy and sufferings from this earth for ever. Have a very very nice day my dear.

Hi, Good point I know what you mean thou people tend to give chance on the people who weren't want to learn and learn in life or do have a job but not contented etc.. and many factors would love them to do other than they used to work with. and those less opportunity were not given a chance to give fish to expand and love to improve themselves. people tend to choice person who are physically looked they were educate and strong rather than those who are not.
