This would be the third day we will have a no rice dinner. It just came in my mind that I should really cut rice intake especially during nights. Well, rice is part of every meal of Filipino so it's really hard to get rid of. My reason to cut rice is that I often feel bloated during nights because of the heavy meal we had before sleeping and second, to lose some pounds. Rice is high in carbohydrates and any excess carbohydrates if not use us energy will just turn into fats. During nights, our metabolism is slower and that during nights we are not that active. That is why I decided to slashed rice in our dinner but of course once in awhile we still have rice. We really can't totally avoid rice because it's part of our meals already. How about you? Are eating rice at night?

Hi Shy, cutting out rice intake during dinner time is quite good for health. But, it is depending on what food you going to replace the rice. You should find another alternative food which can full the stomach. As for me here, for some dinners i would eat fried noodles instead of rice. Sometimes, i would even cook fried rice noodles for a change. It is delicious to eat them once in a while.

Right eating rice can increase blood sugar level too. During days I don't really take much rice because of limited time to eat. Unfortunately at night. I have more time and relax so I tend to eat more rice. Thanks for the response.

I was told to avoid rice during supper/dinner. but it was too hard for me, so what i did, I lessen my rice slowly and slowly until my body goes on with it.

It is hard for me the to lessen the rice intake especially at night. But if totally eliminating it would not work for me, I'll try what you do. Thanks for the response.

Yeah that's true, even I want it totally out during nights, the temptation is still strong. Anyway, my whole family will practice this and no viands and rice will be cooked at night. Thanks for the response.

You are rite.. I was told by my doctor that not eat any heavy meals after 6 pm . It will keep our metabolism work properly and also reduce fat (fat will be reduced by the metabolism itself). And I admit that rice takes a main role on making fats - But I admit I couldn't eat without the rice since rice is the main meal in my country too , Indonesia. I just have to balance it with a lot of vegetables and some protein

Yes, that is very true. I always feel bloated and I almost had heart burn. I really can't get rid of eating much of rice during dinner so it is better not to be served. Haha. In the Philippines, we are really fond of eating rice even with no viands, most eat rice as congee. Thanks for the response.

Yes, I use to do jogging every morning, but when I felt bloated because I had a late dinner last nite I would feel so heavy and so lazy. And the worst is if I mixed some noodles into my rice,my face will be swollen :D Yes rice is really good even without some dishes , I tried to replace the rice by bread but it seems bread only exist in my mouth not in my stomach - I was still hungry! haha.. well, You are welcome ! :)

I also cut down my rice intake just because it is so hard to burn it. Rice is good for us but when it's too much it's not good too. My mom is diabetic and she's not allowed to eat too much rice. She's only allowed one cup per meal. I lose weight myself and as a filipino, it's hard to give up on rice especially we grow up eating rice 3 times a day.

Diabetes runs through our family too that is why I am watching my sugar intake and that rice can make our sugar level high so I am trying to avoid eating much rice. It is hard especially if the viand is so good with it. Anyway, it takes discipline so I will be healthy. Thanks for the response.

Yes I do eat rice when dinner is served early but if it is late dinner I don't eat rice at all. I'd just eat very lightly when late at night. Indeed rice is part of Filipino meal but although I am a Filipino I can actually survive even without rice. I can survive the whole day eating just camote and fruits actually. Can you do that?

All our meals our with rice and its hard to avoid. But sometimes we practice the before 6 diet. Because thats true that metabolism is slower at night. Maybe you coul just lessen the amount of rice that you eat during the evening. And just do a proper diet and exercise to compensate on this things.

Rice is also a part of our everyday meals so it's very hard to get rid of it. I can't do exercise that much because of busy schedule everyday. Thanks for the response.

Hi, We take dinner before six, we make it a point not to eat heavy meals after that hour. We still have rice all day for it forms a staple food in our family. In the morning though, I prefer to have bread and coffee for breakfast since I always have no appetite during the early hours. It helps balance my carb intake, even if most dietician frowns upon having a light breakfast. I would compensate during lunch by having a feast for my digestive system is growling like a lion by then.

I used to do a no rice diet before especially if I want to shed off some pounds. However, there are times when viands are so good that it calls for a cup of hot fluffy rice, so I give in every now and then. But like what you have said, it is during nighttime that our metabolism slows down so I make it a point to skip rice on dinner.

As the typical Filipino family, we always have rice for dinner. But ever since my dad was diagnosed to have high blood pressure, we lessen our rice intake especially at night. And we have been doing it for two months now and so far, we all have lost some weight especially my younger brother who used to be chubby.

It's hard for me not to eat anything after 6pm because that's the time we arrived at home and start cooking. So the best way is to don't eat rice. Thanks for the response.
