Afraid To Have Their Age Being Shown At Their Mylot Profiles?

This is one thing I've noticed. Whenever I peek out at their profiles, There is the country, the location, the gender and so on but one thing is always missing- The AGE. With all their due respects, I'm respecting their rights to do so but I'm just curious about their reason(s). As we all know, we all grow old. We should not be scared or something to have our age being shown on our profiles. So that other curious mylotters would know more about them.

Well, although I respect very much the MyLot community, but this is a habit I have perpetuated,as a reaction for what I have encountered. I am 18 years old.Not much, some say.Child, ones would say. When I wanted to give some piece of advice,I would get the response "Ha!How can a child of [insert year] years have the courage to respond to a senior in a matter like that.Hey,kid,do you think you spent time on this Earth,so that you can even consider to give advice?Mind you business, kid!".Well,I got worse reactions from users,in private messages,on topic etc. I use the sentence "Barba non facit philosophum" which means "A beard doesn't make you a philosopher".Of course,I look for advice from older men,but I don't value those from younger people less. I am more of the "mutual respect" kind of guy.Respect me,and be sure I will respect you.

You're right, some would say what does a child know. What most older people fail to realize is that there are several young people who are very wise beyond their years. As you say most won't listen if they know your age. It's also reversed for older people, younger ones will say what do they know they're old. So I agree with you better to leave age off profile that way you won't or shouldn't get bad reactions from comments you make.

Age is just a number. I don't show mine because some people react negatively to my age.

I wasent aware that there were even ages posted on our mylot profiles. If my age is shown on thete I really do not care at all.I am 29 and when I am 60 what difference will it make if people know it or not. I am curious if my age shows on here I guess I never looked at my profile lol.

Some probably just feel that it has nothing to do with anything and really it doesn't. A lot of us actually do put our age on our profile as well. Many leave off where they are from and even their gender.

Hello my friend, I think it is not a big deal of knowing the age of other mylotters because they surely telling not really required. However, may be they are affraid to show their ages because they are too old to socialize. I said not big deal because before when I asked a question why most mylotters not posting original picture profile instead they put avatar (like you also). You know the response - mind your own business...

hmm, this really doesn't bother me as well, I have not changed my profile since I have joined so I just must have put to private cos I don't think it should be anything that would matter me being here as a mylotter. I am here for a purpose and I mean business. So I don't really wanna know the age of the fellow mylotters. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day ahead.

asocaevillar yes I have also wondered that as it helps us when we visit someones profile to see their age. sometimes we need to consider ones age before responding to something and it helps to know if I am talking to a teenager or an older person as I' an make a more intelligent response knowing the age of the person I am responding to. I gave my age as anyone can tell I am not a young person by the way I write and what I say.Of course if someone has a reason say they are try ing to evade someone 'its certainly their right to keep secrets.

Some here seems to have a common answer: "it's not a big deal" or something. Which I really don't believe. Alibis like what the majority who responded to this post weren't all such a cast-iron excuse for trying to hide their age at their profiles. I'm not invading their privacy and it's also not my intention to hurt them by this post. Sorry if I've made their feelings hurt, the fact was it's only that they felt a pang of guilt among themselves, In fact What I've wanted was to know what really makes them hide their true ages at their profiles. and I certainly agree with the views you have. We all grow old and we age, ergo they should not be scared of their age to be publicly viewed by others.

Maybe the reason why some members don't display their age at their profiles is because they do not want their age to give an impression that is not compatible with what they say in a response or comment in serious subjects like nuclear science or finding the solution for mankind conflicts. Older people seem to know more and carry more weight in those matters even if that is not true.
