Last month,July 3 rd to be exact my daughter and I went on our first vacation to Disney World in Florida. We live in Virginia and went by bus and subway to Union Station in Washington DC where the Amtrak train station is.We boarded the train which was twenty minutes late. The trip took nineteen hours and we got off at the Amtrak station in Kissimmee,Florida, where we found a taxi that drove us to our resort in Disney World. We checked in at the front desk, where the polite staff them took our bags and escourted us to our well decorated and very clean room. We unpacked, got cleaned up and went to leave and found there was a small rain storm. We grabbed our umbrella's but we still got soaked because there was some wind. The storm only lasted about a half an hour, but we were soaked! We went to a dinner we reserved and then went to see the best fireworks display that I have ever seen. During the next six days we visited the Magic Kingdom three times, the Epcot park twice,Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom. On our last day there we went to ESPN Sports, visited the Jambo and Kidani resorts, went to the Typhoon Lagoon water park. We had a great time! Then we retraced our steps for our return. And the train was late again.....ugh! Then about a week later we received a thank you card from them for coming there. I was amazed and still am.....they showed us the best time ever and they are thanking us!

I am so glad you had fun. Disney is a great place to go to see alot for your money as well. I live 1 1/2 hour away from Disney and love it very much. I will probably be purchasing some annual tickets soon as they finish Magic Kingdom and open more attractions, i dont see the point of getting my tickets till they open up the rest of magic kingdom that they have been building. It always rains in the afternoon through Florida and usually doesnt last long but thats when you stay in the hotel and get ready to go to dinner, i have learned when to go and get redy or take a nap and get ready to go back out at night time. Love that it rains thought because it does cool down. Now Magic Kingdom and Epcot both have great fireworks at night and are amazing to see, the parks are going to be packed at that time but its all worh it in the end. You might wait a while to get back to your resort unless you have traveled to the park by your own transportation.

Thanks....we were planning to go back in March, when my daughter will have her spring break, however yesterday I was informed that in January my income is going down a lot. So,unless I can find a way to start earning more money then I am not even gonna' have enough money to pay rent, more or less go to Florida again. We live in Virginia and most of the time when the weather is normal (the past couple years it has changed to really weird)we would normally have a late after or early evening shower that last about thirty to forty minutes (like there),but after words it would either get hotter and more humid or cool off! I think that the changes in Magic Kingdom are not going to be ready till fall of 2013.Hope you get there then. You are lucky living so close.

Thanks for sharing all these details. It shows what people can do besides flying. Other than being late, how did you find train travel to be. I always think I would like to try it, but there is no direct route anywhere I want to go. I think it would take thirty six hours to go to my daughter's house and three days to go see hubby's sister. It does sound like you had a really good time. I have heard that it rains almost everyday in that part of Florida, but I am sure that is a bit of an exaggeration.

Trains are good, but we had just got the regular coach seats that we thought flipped back all the way. But,they didn't so if we take a train next time will will pay more to get a room with a bed.Plus on the train on the way down, there were some real slobs using the bathrooms and making big messes. With some of the rooms you can get a private bathroom with a shower and your meals are included. However there are benefits of riding a train.....for one,you are still on the ground!,two they do not do all the pat down, xrays and searching of your carry on baggage as you do on an airplane. You can walk around on the train,to the lounge and dining room.If you want to carry on other snacks and drinks then you can,but you can't on an airplane. You should go to amtrak.com and research the routes to visit daughter or sister-in-law.

Your post reminded me of my first trip to Disneyland back in early 80s. I flew from DC to Los Angeles and took the bus from the airport to Anaheim with a couple of good friends. It was so much fun since we got to enjoy being young teenagers traveling by ourselves back then...

Going to Disney World with my family is one of my goals. We live here in the Philippines so it's quite expensive for us.. We've been to Disneyland Hongkong but Disneyworld is waaay bigger and better! I guess? lol.. I wanna stay at a Disney hotel too w/c is a bit expensive.. =)

Yes,Disney World in Florida is much bigger there is four parks and one free one, which is mostly just shopping. There are some rides in the free one,but you will need to pay for them. There are twenty six resorts, including a new one. There is also a campground and cabins. I hope that you get to go someday.I will pray for you.

That really sounds like a lot of fun. I've never been to either Disney land or Disney world. My husband and I like to try and stretch our vacation over the year, so instead of going one place for a week or two, we spend two nights or more, in several places. April 3 nights in Montreal with my Mom and step-dad July 2 nights in Kitchener for the Serbian festival. September 2 nights in Niagara Falls for our anniversary December 2 nights in Toronto for Christmas.

That sounds like a wonderful vacation. I am glad that you had such a good time. I went to Disney World in Florida when I was very young. I got a bad sunburn and it was not a good trip for me. I was too small to ride any of the rides and I was afraid of the characters. I had a horrible time. Perhaps one day I can revisit and maybe it will be better.
