I am almost decided to purchase Canon 7D, Body is now final but I am confused about the lens. I don't want to go for Canon 7D Kit lens.. I want to purchase something really good lens with 7d and I can use it almost everyday. I don't want tele lens but more daily usage lens. I have some of the lenses in my mind - like 24-105mm (L lens), this is very costly lens, another one is 17-55mm IS lens, (this one for me feel like a one of the best but again it's price is more or a like a L series lenses. 50mm, 80mm are fixed focal length lens which are good for portrait photography but can't use for all purpose (this is what I think). Can any one suggest me lens other than 17-55mm as a general purpose lens.. for Canon 7D Body?

I shoot maninly High School sports photo and news photos. I use the Canon Rebel T4i camera and a Tamrom 18-270 mm DiII with vibration reduction. I get great night football shots and the cost was abotu 1/4 that of the Canon 70-200 f2.8 lens. I find that this is a great lense for me.

17-55m f2.8 is a nice lens. Its the best general purpose lens. Maybe you could specify more of to where you are going to use it so that we can suggest more approprate lenses. But for general, I would always suggest either 17-55 or 27-80 lenses with f2.8.
