Random Thought. Two Answers Requested

I often think about random things, and usually want to get other people's opinions on my randomness. Hahaha.
So my latest thought is this: If an Ameircan P.O.W was turned against the USA "BY FORCE", would we still consider them/treat them as a typical traitor?
So I'm looking for two answers from you here. 1) Would YOU personally think they SHOULD be treated the same as any other traitor and 2) What do you think the government WOULD do in such a situation?
I will have fun debates with you guys as your post, and use some information to try to change your minds (if I need to) Haha.
*PLEASE no nastiness/fighting with this discussion. It has the potential to get some people boiled up!

I would imagine this has happened already and I'm not sure what the government does. I again, would think they would treat them as a traitor but under scrutiny to see if it was actually so or not. I think it would be kind of hard to tell if they were really traitors or just trying to save their own life.
This is a rough question Lil, or rough 2 questions.
I guess I feel they should be treated the same, but I personally, would take into consideration all the torture they went through to get them to change.

Yeah, I would hate to know someone who was in this situation. To think about someone I knew going through that amount of torture would be so hard. I would really hope that the government would try to help them, like david above said.

Hey there Lily,
Well i think that the government should lock them up and try to UN-wash their brainwashed minds it might take some time but it should help, like for war veterans that got injured and needs rehabilitation this should be the same thing for those guys who had been flipped by the enemy. I think re-entering them into society will take a while but they should be helped and evaluated closely.

That's a good answer, it gives them a chance to be the person they were before, be the person they wanted to be. It would be just like other problems that war veterans face, and would require extensive rehabilitation! Hopefully their families and friends would be able to help them get back to their old selves.

Hey Lily :-)... Once again you've come up with food for thoughts...
If a POW turns against the country for material gains, he's traitor. Even under threat of life, I'd not dare it... It is sin! So if a POW claims to have treasoned coz of threat to his life, then it'd not be justified.
Let us think of a deeper and graver situation.. A POW is told by his captors that unless he does something, his country would suffer (like bombing a city), then his yielding would not so serious...
What I'm trying to say is, it is important to find out for what reasons did the POW give up the cause for which he fought...
The Government should do its duty.. Its job is to protect people, and they should do it for any cost...
Good Day Missy...

Yeah you bring up good "thinkers" also. But what I had in mind for my example wasn't that the POW did things because of a threat to their life. I thought more that the American went through countless days of torture and was "brainwashed" in a sense to become a traitor. Not just, "if you don't do this i'll kill you now."

That's a sticky wicket there.... I want to but I can't come up with an answer to either question at all. My mind get stuck at "how do you figure out he/she's been turned BY FORCE? You can talk to the POW, but how do you really discern if the POW is telling the truth or selling more lies because they truly have defected? And if the POW has been brainwashed, how do you begin to prove that? Yeah... you got me here lol

Haha! That is a whole of of what if's, and I guess that's wht makes this situation so difficult and interesting. And then there's that whole question of, can someone who is brainwashed to cause harm EVER really be trusted? What if they say they are fixed, and maybe even they believe they are, but deep down something is still wrong? Oh boy!

Hmmm, have you been reading the Hunger Games trilogy? Though as far as I know, that kind of technology is not available, but the guy who was brain washed in the books ended up okay, but only after a certain amount of time and lots of work, I am sure.
So, yeah, I think it is possible to help one who has been tortured to harden his or her heart towards America, but I wouldn't allow him or she to be in an important position again and it will take years of therapy just to get a life for him or her to continue living.

No I have not been reading The Hunger Games. I don't really read the big triology novels like that, I just prefer to see the movies. So, since the next movies aren't out yet, please don't share any more details from the books! Hahahahaha
Yeah, never putting them in an important position again is a good point. And when they're "fixed" I think it's something they could understand. And def. lots of therapy would be needed!

Oops, sorry.. Of course they could always change how they make the movie, but I found it interesting that you brought this up, because how many people would think of a question like that unless their creative mind is working over time???hahaha Anyway, no more talk about the books, just the movie!!!

Lol that's okay!
My mind is always working over time. Believe me, I have some of the weirdest thoughts ever! Haha. I can say with some certainty that I am never bored inside my own head.
