Does starting a discussion earn you money on Mylot?

I am pretty new here to Mylot, and I am confused as to how you gain earnings. I know that when you comment on someones discussion you get earnings - but how much. And then I was wondering do you get earnings from starting a discussion, and do you get more earnings if the discussion is popular. It would make sense to earn more from a popular discussion as this would motivate people to start quality discussions instead of rubbish. Would love your feedback on all the ways to make earnings on Mylot!

Nah, there is no earnings just for starting a discussion. You have to come back to your discussion, check the responses and comment on them if you desire. You get paid for responding, commenting, using the search engine, etc. This is a discussion site. Thus, your earnings depend on the quality of your responses. You don't get paid on "per post" basis. So concentrate more on quality and providing details on your responses. That's it. For further information, check this out: http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq6.aspx#14
Good luck!

I didn't know that one can earn by just starting a discussion. I've started discussions many times in the past, didn't response on anything that day. Didn't get paid the next day. Thus, I was under the impression that you only earn from discussions if you come back to it and reply to the responses. Learned a new thing today. Thanks for that. Good day!

I agree with MIMO and Owlings sir only start the discussion is not earning source comment back is most important. Everything depend upon us we type and we earn.

Exactly. You earn more when you initiate a popular discussion on Mylot and comment on all the responses to it that ensue. Here you are paid for whatever you type.So if you initiate a discussion, you earn for it.Then if you add comments to all the responses attracted by it,you earn for each comment that you add.Logically the more the responses, the more comments on them and so the more you earn. That's so simple. And if your discussion has a good number of positive ratings, your reputation goes up here which,in turn, enables you to earn more.

Of course, provided my discussion attracts a satisfactory number of responses and my discussion emerges as the highest rated one. That would increase my reputation here and I earn more adding comments to all responses. This discussion of yours must have had a good number of positive ratings. However you have to complete 100 discussions to get a star before your username.

So would I be right in saying that you earn more for a popular discussion then you would for a discussion that is not popular. That would make a lot of sense to me because it would really encourage people to initiate good, quality discussions that people are interested in and actually want to respond to. Actually since posting this question on myLot I left for a couple of days and when I just came back now I was surprised to see that my earnings were quite a bit higher - and I haven't really done anything. I can only put it down to the discussions I have started being vaguely popular. I will see as time goes on I guess!

Yes, staring discussions, responding to other people's discussions and commenting in your own and other people's discussions are ALL part of 'participation'. Remember, however, that starting a discussion is just the beginning. You would earn very little at all if you never came back to reply to the people who respond to your discussion (and even less if your posts are deleted because you haven't read an understood the Guidelines: http://www.mylot.com/o/guidelines.aspx ).
The golden rule here is that YOU earn from what YOU type; others earn from what THEY type. You don't earn a single brass farthing from the responses which other people make to your discussions but you DO earn if you come back and discuss the topic with them in comments!
Earnings are calculated using a proprietary and secret algorithm which we are not allowed to discuss and which is based on the quality of your participation. There is no set amount 'per post' and nor can anyone say that you will earn such-and-such for any particular post. All earnings are calculated over a 24 hour period - midnight to midnight according to MyLot time, shown at the bottom of the page - and updated sometime on the morning of the following day.

SO from what I have read and from the guidelines, it appears that quality is the biggest factor in earning - as well as quantity of course. There must be quite a few people who are disappointed then - looking at the quality of some of the posts and responses - LOL. You are an exception though. Thank you for your thorough and informative response to my question!

You get earnings pretty much for everything that you type so whether you are starting a discussion or commenting on someone elses discussion you will be earning money. It's hard for me to say how much you will earn on your responses and activities because it varies depending on the quality and how long your responses and posts are.
I think that starting a discussion is the best way to earn quite a bit in a day because if you can get a lot of responses and then comment back to them you can earn a lot pretty fast and easily. The best thing for you to do is just be active when you can and you can get a lot of mylot.

I agree with what you are saying. I think the key is starting quality discussions and then making good comments back to those that respond to your discussion. I have only started 5 or so discussions and responded to a couple of other peoples discussions and to be honest I thought I didn't expect to have earned much at all, but I have been pleasantly surprised. So I think I will certainly hang around myLot and see what can be achieved - And I am having fun too!

I just know that when I'm doing mylot, I earn cents, I don't know what were those earnings represent whether for starting or responding a discussion. The only thing that I know will earn using mylot as search engine. However, I don't know how many times we browse but there will be a notation that will pop up congratulating us that we earn 19 cents for browsing. As to other way of earning, such as doing tasks, blogging and others, I still haven't tried them.

I'm new in here and my friends just told me I'm paid in here for participating so I really think that opening new discussions and reply to one makes you earn in here. They also told me that I'm paid for commenting other users' posts also if they didn't up my number of messages in here totally but it's not true at all.

I have not calculated, yet once or twice, I realized that I did make some money, when I started a discussion which got huge number of responses. However, that happens rarely, and we get to earn more by responding.

I hope you have been able to figure out how this all works now.
Took me awhile to and now I do earn here as well. I do more responding than starting discussions. Its just a me thing. I know there are some that start more than respond and work with in them.. So potential to earn is there.. just have to get it done. :)

Both starting a discussion and responding to a discussion earn you money on Mylot. In short, participating actively in mylot would generate money for you. It would be better if you provide feedback to the responses to your discussions. You should always remember that in mylot, the more you write, the more you earn.
