I used to carry a reusable/recycled cloth bag wherever I go.
The one I have is very handy, it can be folded and put into
my handbag. So when I need I can just open it up. I am kind
of environment friendly person. I tried to reduce carbon foot
print as much as possible.
In my state, Selangor (Malaysia), the government encourage no
plastic bag day on every Saturdays. In Penang (another state
in North of Malaysia) they declared no plastic day everyday.
If the customer want a plastic bag they have to pay for it.
This is to discourage them from using the plastic bag. The
money collected from the plastic bag will be used to channel
in aids of welfare homes etc.

Hi,
Our environment is facing major problem of plastic pollution. Measures are taken by the world to control the plastic pollution. Laws are made all over the world to restrict the use of plastic bags. Restrictions on size and colors of plastic bags are imposed. These bags are very dangerous for animals and human also. So we should avioid the use of plastic bags. When I go out for shopping I always carry a cloth bag with me.

Hi, roshigo! I just responded (#24) that where I live I don't think anybody is doing anything. But it's good to hear that many places are. Many people here carry their own bags but the stores are doing nothing as far as I can tell. I also included a link about plastic that you may (or may not) be interested in. Have a wonderful day.

Here the supermarket no longer provides the plastic bag for free. If you need it, then you have pay for it. This is a rule to encourage people to pay attention to the environment and then use less plastic bags. So I already have a habit to bring my own shopping bag when I go shopping. In fact it is not so troublesome for me and I like this rule.

I know that I really should purchase several reusable shopping bags and take them with me when I go to the grocery store, but this has been something that I've been failing with miserably.
First of all, when my children and nieces were younger and were wearing diapers, I would use the plastic grocery bags to throw the dirty diapers in as opposed to getting a diaper genie or something like that.
Now that they are older, I'm simply trying to get rid of one of my bad habits that is so very hard to break.

yes, i always carry a cloth bag when i am shopping, it is convient. and you know people need to pay extra money if they want some plastic bags in China, so as a chinese, i always carry my own plastic bags, and i also want to prevent our earth, as you say, pollution is a big problem. i wish more people can use their own cloth bags and decrease the pollution of plastic.

I hate plastic bags, I always take my bags when I go shopping but sometimes if I call in to the store for a quick few items I have to take a plastic bag.
Luckily, the big stores have a bin where you can deposit your used plastic bags and they go back to the manufacturer to be recycled into new plastic bags.
I still see dozens of people using plastic bags and it scares me to think so many simply don't care about their impact on the environment. I know we are losing the battle.

I carry reusable bags in the trunk of my car but forget to take them into the store most times. What can I do to remind myself?

You know, I try to help the environment where ever I can and I do recycle all the time. Not only with our city recycling pickup that is paid for with our property taxes, I will also recycle aluminum cans and other scrap metals at the local scrap metal yard.
However, I've never been one that is good at remembering to take cloth shopping bags with me to the grocery store. This is something that I really should work on changing, but it is a change that I know will take me quite some time.

I like the plastic bags better. I know they are worse for the planet, but I am disabled and can't carry anything unless it is in a bag with handles. I know some of the canvas bags have handles also, but I use the plastic ones for everything. I also put them in my waste baskets, and couldn't do that with canvas.

I read a study a few months back which pointed out that the rate of junk and pollutants requited to make a cloth bag is more than plastic bags, if the plastic bag is reused at least once. I always try to use the plastic bags as many times as I can to make this more dominant. I use the bags to take my lunch to work and to line small garbage pails.
Then one has to make sure the bag is disposed of properly. There are many places that recycle bags to that improves this process even more.

We have canvas bags but most of the time we forget them, as we use paper bags for covers for the kids books, and plastic bags in our little garbaged around the house.

yes they are very convenient at the same time very harmful too, but many ignore it, and go with flow, moat of the times i do carry a cloth bag, and its very useful i must say, i used to find it difficult previously , and always used to forget to carry the bag even after deciding it, but slowly i started making it as a habit, it took some time , but finally i made it, now i will definitely carry the cloth bag when ever i got out.

Yes, I always take a cloth shopping bag and I have an insulated bag too, for frozen foods. But none of the stores here are doing anything about it. Plastic bags are free and that's all the department stores use. The grocery stores use paper but plastic is readily available if you ask for it. It's as if they are totally oblivious to the fact that plastic is poisoning the planet. I don't believe they care one bit. I just found a website extolling the benefits of plastic bags. Of course the site is that of a plastics manufacturer. I have to say it has some very interesting information. If anyone cares to look at it, it's here: www.spectrumbags.com/environmental_considerations.htm I believe there are some states that have laws, but I am not aware of which states and what the laws are. I think this is a good discussion and it shows there are many people concerned with our environment. If the large corporations and government don't do anything, at least the people are. And it's good to hear of countries that are doing so much good in regards to protecting the earth we live on.

Free, i am carrying along my folded and convenient shopping bags whenever i go shopping. Because there is no more free plastic bags available anymore. We will need to pay if we want the market to supply any plastic bag. It is good to see everyone of us are doing our best to cut down the pollution.

I washed an old very sturdy cloth bag that I made years ago and now I´m using that instead of plastic bags. Some thibgs need plastic bags, but for the most paert, my cloth bag will suffice. I also bought a food carrier with wheels to to to the market. No need of new plascit bags, but I take some old recicled ones just in case.

I have a lot of cloth bags and most of the time I forget to take them with me when I go to the store. I think from now on I am going to put some in my truck and keep them in there. They sure are a lot better than the plastic bags. But the plastic bags can be used to make crafts I know a few people that make rugs using them.

I just do not take any cloth bag or any paper with me on any time. I just used to buy them when it is necessary. I feel it is a boring activity to carry them with us. Money can get our needs. So why I should I worry about it. More over it's costs is quite little.
