My husband left our motorcycle a bit far from our house and parked it near a store which we know the owner so we know it was safe..as the road infront of our house was being fixed. There were putting new cement and asphalt on it..so we could not put the motorcycle yesterday afternoon inside our driveway..we have to wait for it to cool down so we could pass..
so thinking it was safe he left it outside as most people know us there and no one really did something wrong ever. After things were fixed, he took our motorcycle last night around 6 in the eve and put it inside, he did not even take a look if the plate number was still there..until this morning when we were about to leave for work. He saw that the plate number was missing! It was not there at the back of the motorcycle where it is supposed to be.
He is ticked and i know mad. I also do not know what to do as you cannot just use the motorcycle without a plate number as it is a violation! we might get a ticket for it or get the motor impounded. grrr. we honestly do not know who took it, why it was taken as well what is its value anyway to them? grr. i am also ticked. But i told him let us get some affidavit of loss in case an officer would see our plate-less motorcycle as we need to use it as communicating is out of the question. Since it was early we still used the motorcycle as no officer is around early in the morning.. before 7 am.
i do not like him being ticked because that will last for days until he finds out what happened.

You can't blame your husband for feeling that way. It is a big waste of time again to go to the LTO and have it reported and apply for another license plate. Just comfort him and assure him that everything will be taken cared off. You might also want to report it to the police.

I had a similar incident happen to me. I was working and was getting off my shift and had to go to the grocery store. I got my groceries and was searching for my car, found my car but the license plate wasn't mine. So I called the police and reported them in as being stolen. Good thing I reported it in,because a couple of days later the persons that took my plates off of my car and replaced theirs on my car, attempted a burglary in a town 50 miles from where I lived at. Since I reported it in, the police couldn't associate the vehicle to me. So yes, your husband should report it to the police.

I guess I would feel the same way as your husband. Now a days we can not say that being a resident of a particular place or we knew everyone in the place would mean our things or property are safe from ill minded people.
The best you can do is report it to the police that your number was stolen and apply for a new one. Just think of the possibilities why your plate number was stolen. The one who have taken it can use it for their criminal intention.

Yes, it's a scary. I just hope that your husband had already reported the loss and have applied for a new number. I guess it may cost him a bit but it's the right thing to do to play safe so that the lost plate will be cancelled.

Wow that really truly sucks. It is a big pain in the assets to get it replaced. You have to get a police report and you need to report the plate stolen because if somebody puts it on the back of their bike then as long as ot os not on their list of stolen plates and cars you will have legal problems. Anywho it deos suck and I wish that people would just try to honest and true, or at least stop stealing peoples stuff. I really really don't understand the sense of entitlement.

It could have been simply a prank by someone who wanted the plate, but you also have to take into consideration that there might have been a criminal reason behind the theft also.. A stolen plate could mask the identity of a thief committing a robbery, and if a witness recognized your plate,it would be you that the police would come calling on..good that you reported the theft, just in case..

yes it could be a prank, it could be not right? we never know really and i doubt we will ever know..so those measures we did after will hopefully be enough to not get us in further trouble.

hi jazel,
It happened to my car a month ago I am really pissed off about it
We blotter it then we go to LTO to request for another plate number and it cost too much I think the one who took it is a tripper or a gang who will use fake plate number for their bad doings.
happy mylotting

Well who wouldn't be ticked off?! About the plate being stolen, there r steps u can take, as far as reporting it, go to a motor registration place and report it as stolen. I don't think anyone could use it as their own because first of all it's under his/or ur names so say if someone were to use it as their own motorcycle license plate and they get pulled over and the cops would check the plate only to find out that it doesn't belong to the said person. And hopefully hell get arrested and ull press charges.
I say report it to the local authorities and they will tell u what to do from there.
I hell u find the theif who took ur hubby's licenes plate : )

he is actually itching to find who the thief is.. but i said to him there is no point in stressing over it or getting pissed off over it as well we do not really who it is, we did report it and the police and the LTO just made some papers for it and then had us apply and get new plate.

That's really messed up jazel_juan. Apparently someone stole the plates and probably are using them on another motorcycle which is illegal. People who do that are hiding from having to pay the fees for the plates and/or hiding from the police. I know of a man who's plates were stolen off of his vehicle and he had to report it and buy new plates. It can be expensive but what other choice does one have when they need their only means of transportation? None.

Your husband should have immediately contacted the police about the theft. Yes, it can be a hassle; however, that is what one needs to do when there is a theft. If the police do not know that there is a problem, they cannot do anything to attempt to remedy it.

well with cases like this, the police do not go to the scene as it is just a plate missing.. we have to go to the station to report it and we did and hopefully we will be able to replace one soon.

This is one of bad people's modus.
Recently we have encountered incident wherein a stolen plate number bump on one of my friend's car.
The other car run away but my friend was able to took the plate number.
Upon checking at the LTO office, my friend found out that the plate number is a stolen one....
So, they've sorted on the model and color of the vehicle- luckily they've found one surprising truth again...the vehicle itself is also listed on the carnap/missing vehicle.
Better to report this immediately and take care from bad elements roaming around.

Ah, at last there is something to work on...(The Gems Bond in me was getting the feeling of being unemployed for a while).
Though it is sad that things like this happened, I see a better thing here - there was no serious theft or a big one. I am sure if it was here, the whole bike would have gone missing... like the other day when one of our neighbors had lost hist front tyre of his car.
I would recommend to lodge a complain with the cops as number plate theft is done for various reasons - biggest one - for changing the number plate of a stolen vehicle. So just be careful

I understand how your husband feels. You have to report this lost as soon as possible because some people really steal plate numbers to use in crimes. I have this one experience that someone went to my husband's shop to have his computer be repaired. When he went back that afternoon, he told my husband that he has no money but he really needs the computer that time. The man offered that he would just left the plate number of his motorcycle to us until he was able to pay. My husband put the plate number inside one of our glass shelves. But he really do not know what happened, he just realized that the plate number is not there. He was so worried because they owner might come and he does not know what to say. He called the owner and explained. They eventually report this incident and they were told that some people would steal plate number to use for crimes and mislead the authorities.

I know the feeling of losing a plate number in an unexpected place. It is appropriate that you would report this to the proper authorities. We cannot really avoid this occurrences particularly nowadays where crimes involving motorcycles ride in tandem. All we need to do is to remain vigilant, not to be caught on an offguard circumstances. Let us be careful always. Thanks

I certainly can understand is anger and frustration. It is just such a hassle to deal with. Here is the states, it would definitely have to be reported to the police as it would protect him if it was used in committing any crime. Your laws may be different though.
The reasons people take them here, is that they cannot afford to buy their own or they are using them when committed crimes.
Good luck- I am so sorry to hear that this happened to you.

well not really, it will also be useless on their part to use the plates as it comes with papers too so even if the person who took it will use it and they will be flagged down by a police and look for the papers that person will still be caught. Unless that person will use it for bad uses then definitely he can get away with it.
