I can't speak for everyone, but as for me I like Facebook because it's the best way I know of when it comes to keeping in touch with family & friends. I also enjoy playing the games on there such as Castleville & Sims Social.

The main purpose of social network is to connect people whom you know. But nowadays many people have twisted the function to something that makes them feel much better by having lots of people in their contact list whom they do not even know. I have seen many people adding me despite being a stranger to me, and of course i will decline the request. However, there are people for example my friends, who will accept any request regardless of whether he knows them or not. I guess this is what people call the virtual ego? They love social network because it makes them feel socially powerful in the sense that they can not achieve in real life. Tell me seriously, who can actually manage to have a real life contact list of thousands.

i think facebook realize and understand the human basic need..
Human likes for socializing, interacting with another people..
There are types or kind of attitudes with few of people, tend to show that they had been succesfully..It can be done with putting their picture, their home, their car and so on..
They like get another people praise too..They like when another people send compliment to them..
It`s human basic need

before social like fb, there were forums and messengers, but they do not make you really connect with people. social sites make that connection possible. imagine what it means to relate to others through contacts, images, videos like never before not just on a one-to-one basis, but as groups of friends, or people who share the same interests. that is the power of social networks.
