Hoping for the best?

Not me. I have always expect the worst and I am surprised when the best happens. And that is why I don't get nervous when others do. I just assume the worst. So I guess for me I reverse that old saying "hoping for the best but planning for the worst." How about you?

Well with me, I always see the bad before the good. And I do always expect the worst. I feel like you on this. That way if it is not so bad then it is a good thing. I don't have the time or energy to see the positive things. It seems like doing that takes more out of me. I guess I am programed to see and expect the worst. I like it that way and it works for me.

All I can say is do not change. If seeing the negative first makes you feel better then thats fine. We are the kind of people that need to sift out all the bad things before we could move forward with anyone or anything.

I have always felt the way you do because this way it is a lot less upsetting when the worst happens and if something good ends up happening it is a big and nice surprise! I would rather not get my hopes up for no reason. I have never had things easy so that is probably why I feel the way I do about it...

Good thing I have heard this from another person. It is so rare to find a person with similar outlook. Most people just shrug at us and say that we are pessimistic, but the truth is, we are just preparing for the worst. Worst-case scenario is the best plan for me, because if events turn out better, the joy is simply exhilarating and I become euphoric.

As you mentioned you are expecting the worst, so you don't get disappointments, i.e if we expect the best and receive the worst, we will be more disappointed, if we expect the worst and get the same there is no wonder, on the other hand if we expect the worst and get the best, really we will be surprised

That is exactly one should do. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst and leave the rest for the God to decide. God is all knowing so there are times when we think some thing or some situation is good for us while the all knowing God knows that is bad for us in the long run and prevents that from reaching us. So we should always be willing to accept the will of God.

So how would your saying go then? I don't think it's wrong to expect the worst case scenario and then be surprised when something better happens. That means a lot of times, you will be pleasantly surprised! Other times - when it doesn't work out so well - you won't be disappointed, and you'll probably be better prepared than anyone else! I don't hope for or expect the best case scenario ever because that leaves too much to chance. It's so rare for everything to work out. I'm still an optimist, I think, but I'm not hard to please. I'm just not all that disappointed when the let-downs come because I know better. If something works out well, then I'm happy. If not, no big deal. I see people who get so frustrated when things don't go their way. My coworkers are so mad that they can't get their work done because a million people came and interrupted them. I ask them if they really expected anything different? I mean, think about it...the day you are trying to get the most done is the day you'll have the most interruptions. So...I just look at it like, "I dare you to shock me." I'm getting to a point where it's almost comical to see the way other people react to things. If you're easygoing about it, there will be few things that disappoint you.

It is different to not be disappointed and Never expecting Anything good happening.I may seem easy going because I usually assume it wasn't suppose to happen to me.Now that I have this nice guy love me has made me think Why not me? When it is something I plan I do hope for the best. But in the back of my head I see things going so wrong.

I worry about everything , the things in my control and the things out of my control. It is rare for me to think something Is in my control!

You're right - it's different, but I don't think it's a bad thing to never expect anything good. When things seem absolutely perfect to me, I'm thinking, "Ok, what's the catch?" I expect something to go wrong too lol. "When it is something I plan I do hope for the best." Same here. I try to plan for things to go right. When it's something I cannot control, then there's no point in expecting the best. If it's something I can't change, why worry about it?

Sometimes I wake up very positive and feel sure that the best is comming. Other times I expect the worst. Today I was very much afraid when I went for my doctor´s appointment. I have been expecting the worst these last two or three days. Fortunatly, the doctor said everything was fine. So I have another 3 months to9 do whatever I want to, after my treatment next week.

You are fighting the good fight. The type of feelings I am talking about may harm your recovery. You Have to stay positive. I hope everything goes well.

I think you already know this about me sarah. That I'd rather expect the worse in everything, so that if something does come out great, then I'd be pleasantly surprised. I tried a few times to change the way I think, but I guess it's just in my nature.

well you are lucky in the case when you thought of the worst and the best happens because it is normally that it does not happen that way. Normally your thought is what comes into reality and it is anything, whether positive or negative. If you think positive, positive will happen and if you think negative then negative will happen. Our future is what we have thought now. This is the secret to life. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day ahead.

My cousin is taking part in college election and he is very sure that he will definately win but I am trying to make him understand that any thin g can happen in these type of things so kindly be prepaid for the worst also . I am hopping he wins but he should not be over confident for something which can hurt him.

I guess I am a bit the same way. It is a nice surprise when things work out really good but I do expect everything to be tough. I look on the bright side and stay optimistic, but I am not so naive that I don't realize there is sometimes more bad things that can happen than there are good.

Hmm I don't know what my saying would be. I gets it would be hope for the best but don't stress out till I know what the heck is going on. I try not to think about the what if part of like the worst thing that could happen part not something I like to think about or worry about.
