Guangzhou, the third biggest city in China, is with over 2200 years of history. It is really a cultural city with long history. Guangzhou has been the center city in politics, economy and culture since Qin and Han Dynasty. It was built up in 214 BC ( Before Century). It had been named Let Xiao City at the very beginning of being built. The earliest official city name called Chuting in 9th century BC. And its name was changed to Guangzhou since year 226 by Sun Quan, a famouse King of Eastern Wu in three kingdoms period of China history. But at that time, the administration area Guangzhou covered over two provinces ( Guangdong and Guangxi), but ont only refered to the city area of Guangzhou today.
The international sea trade of Guangzhou started from Jin and Southern-northern Dynasties. Many goods popular in ancient time were imported to China from overseas and exported to overseas from China since that time. The merchant of Ancient Rome once went to inland China through Guangzhou port. Indian Buddist built the first Buddist Temple ( Benevolent King Temple in Haizhou District today) in Guangzhou in year 281,the same year as the Rome merchant came. Later in East Jin Dynasty, another Buddist temple,Wangyuan Temple ( Guangxiao Temple today), was built up by another Buddist. Guangzhou was the centre of sea international trading in ancient time since this time. And after Shui and Tang Dynasty, Guangzhou went further to be
the starting port of maritime silk route(sea silk road). So the ancient international trading in Guangzhou became more gloriuse.
