My officemates and I were talking yesterday about how we were feeling these days. It seems we're surrounded with a grim cloud or something. This week alone, we've heard of 4 deaths within our circle and 1 from a known person in our country. Then a friend's father passed away, then my neighbor's mother did, and then just this hour, I have heard that a friend of mine passed away (she was murdered ).
Now, I don't have the right to complain because for sure the families of those people bear more pain than me, but I can't help but be affected by the news. One of my office mates confessed she's becoming depressed on these types of news, another friend said that he could no longer take the talk of death. I guess I too am affected. Not to mention that the weather is gloomy and all.
I think we're at the brink of depression. How do you deal with these unfavorable circumstances? Do you shut out the bad news? How do you cope in order not to succumb to the grim feelings?
I think the things that helped me be okay for now is the fact that I have a nephew and a niece who keep me in high spirits. And perhaps because I have been attending a lot of children's parties this month and news about engagements make me smile.
How about you?

I have a discussion called "Life is Short". I wrote it some time back because I was becoming more aware of mortality with the passing away of those you would least expect. I believe one can take comfort in true friends, a good family and finding a passion. One or more of these things can give you a better feeling about life. Life is a blessing. The more we appreciate it, the more we can recognize the blessing that it is.

Everything is psychological. The more you think the more you are going to get sad and depressed.I myself was a victim of depression not long ago but I taught myself not to fell in the trap.If you keep worrying about your past and future then how will you concentrate on the present. All of us have enough resources and things with us to make us happy and satisfied. But greedy mind can never ever satisfy himself.
Always remember this saying, "Yesterday is History, Tomorrow is Mystery, Today is a gift, That's why we call it Present".

Thanks for reminding me of that saying, I came across that several years ago. I guess it's really a fitting quote for these days. People think I am not affected by all the bad news surrounding, but I have noticed that I'm becoming more paranoid.
Indeed it's good to let go of all these unnecessary anxiety and just live each day (day by day).
Thanks for sharing and thanks for the thoughts! Have a great mylot experience ahead!

I guess, I also notice the same thing around. Some says when there are too many deaths around it could be a harvest season or harvest time for souls. We need to accept that life is temporary and we are all destined to die so we can still have peace knowing we need to pass this times and soon everything will be alright.

Yes Laydee there are very many sad things in this world and it can get overwhelming sometimes. Sometimes I avoid watching the news as there are just bad things happening around. Since most of these sad things are not in our control i just try to look for the positive around and be thankful for that. I imagine there are people out there who are homeless or lack a meal just to quote a few and I take time to be thankful that I had a meal and have a roof over my head.

True, this is indeed true. We should always be thankful for what we have. And yes, it's good to sometimes stop listening to the news but there are times when one can't simply leave - most especially if it's a friend who tells you that a member of their family passed away.
But yeah, I try to steer clear of depression by appreciating my life more and by doing things to keep the balance at all times.
Thanks for the response, have a great mylot experience ahead!

Yeah, regardless what good that might come after these events, it's still painful for those who are directly affected and for those (like me) who become paranoid about the thought of losing every person you love - arrgghhh.. it's torture!
But yeah, we can't really do about it but we still do have time to make amends with the people we love and show them that we do feel for them.
Thanks for the response, have a great mylot experience ahead!

Learning to accept the downside of life is not always easy. When many tragedies occur in your life or the lives of people you know and/or care for, it can be overpowering. But you have found one of the secrets to staying happy -- your connection to the children you know. Children have the ability to bring life and happiness to replace sadness and feelings of depression. You need to find happiness in your own life to overcome the sadness. Appreciate the beauty and the wonder of life. You're young still. Grab today and enjoy it for what it gives you, don't fear it for what it has taken away. It's hard sometimes but this is what you have to do for yourself. Life goes on and if you dwell on the sadness of life you will miss all the pleasure. Smile and enjoy the day! It's in your power to make it good or not. Have a great day and cheer up! The sun always comes back out after a storm.
