Why is it if you add a comment to a comment, it doesn't add up?

I'm just wondering why it doesn't add up like when I respond to someone's topic and the topic starter commented on my response and I commented back doesn't add up? vanessa11 (91) I have searched FAQ but it's not stated there. Do we still earn from it? But anyway, it is still a good thing to continue the discussion even it doesn't count to our earnings =D
Happy myLotting!

That number is not a post count and does not include all of our activity.
It is not related to earnings either.
We earn for all of our own topics, responses and comments (if they are within the guidelines) but the number only increases when we:
- start a new topic (and it receives 2 responses, or 1 response + 1 comment)
- respond for the first time on a dicsussion started by others.
- comment for the first time on a discussion started by others.
It also decreses if we lose posts when deletions take pla ce.
This topic explains it too:

I tested the search after reading your comment and indeed it doesn't appear
Not always does the search pick up everything, sadly.
never mind, as I hope it is clear to you (and anyone else reading too) now.
Welcome aboard!

I've noticed that too. I'm wondering if we are paid if we respond to any of our discussion's comments. I guess we can only get 1 point from commenting on a discussion. If the person who started the discussion responded I guess we can't have another point there. Although maybe, we are paid. The number right next to our name is our reputation right? So maybe no matter how many are our responses in one discussion, it's not adding up. I hope veterans will enlighten us about this. Happy mylotting.

The simplest way to think of your User Rating is as a "Discussion Count". In other words, it counts (approximately) the number of discussions you have been involved in NOT the number of posts you have made in total.
It isn't quite as simple as that, as MysDianaIT's detailed explanation above shows - it is possible for your UR to increase by TWO if you do certain things in a single discussion, but, for most people "Discussion Count" is the simplest way of thinking of it.
