My husband plays in a band and he doesn't listen to me, or the rest of the band doesn't. I'm not sure but I suggest songs that I really think will get the party going and they just smile and ignore me from what I can see. Some of it's OK, some of it just makes people just sit down. Technically they are REALLY good, with great vocalists but sometimes it looks they're just dying up there on stage because no one's dancing.
We all know that some of us are listening and don't want to dance, but the bar owners see a crowded dance floor as the sign of success.
They play ALL kinds of stuff, from Chain of Fools to Black Horse and the Cherry Tree. What gets you up on the dance floor?? (Please don't yell Free Bird!!)

*stands up and yells "Free Bird"*
There really isn't any particular kind of music that gets me up dancing, although there are certain songs that really move me and make me dance, even if I have to do it in my seat. I like to dance to things with a good beat, but there are different kinds of dancing for different kinds of beats and songs, so really a variety is good. Of course, there are songs that are more difficult to dance to, such as heavy metal, but I have also seen people get up and just jump up and down and shake their heads like they are having a seizure to that as well.

THANK you purple - I made my husband read your comment. I think he agrees but its the keyboardist with the motor mouth. I tell my husband to tell him but it doesn't seem to make any difference. I'm thinking of passing this whole discussion on to my hubby so he can forward it to the group. Well I guess I can't now after what I just said ;-)
But I'm waiting for actual songs like: Brass in Pocket, Walking on Sunshine, Kids in America, Goodbye to You. Do you have any thoughts?

Thanks again Purple! You did give the best response. Of course, you can see there wasn't exactly an onslaught of responses ;-) Seriously, you were helpful!
I'm forwarding your answer if I can copy it?? to my hubby. My husband tends not to deliver bad news, so telling Ray the talkative one in the band to stop talking and play music probably will never be told. We're not kids, so we don't exactly have any expectations that this band will become rich and famous. My guess - if they break even they're lucky. They're in it for their own fun really so I guess I'll just have to live with it. ;-)

Pop they do and some of it new too, country, not really. Maybe it's the bars they're playing at??

I love the 80's music. I am the kid from the New Wave era. Any song from that time, I am surely up on my feet.

jenny - 867-5209!! I got it, I got it for a good time!! Maybe that's the 90s I lose decades easily ;-) I'm with you the only thing they do really I guess New Wave would be Talking Heads - Take me to the River, but there again, I think that's 70's??
angel - hmmm...they don't really do country but people who do like country do seem like more of a lively crowd. Slow songs, they got - very few dance and I think it's cuz no one else is up there.
Thanks!
