Should a beauty saloon be located next to an office?

I work in an office that shares a wall with a unisex beauty saloon and some of their clients keep walking into our office. This is no problem as redirecting them is not an issue but the loud conversation when they have no clients and watching movies at an elevated volume.should a beauty saloon be located next to a normal office?

Actually , having a beauty salon next to the office would be nice. At least, after office hours, we can drop by there should we want our hair trimmed or our nails manicured.
However, if the case is like yours, it's a no-no indeed.

I would also be so angry if that is what's happening - noise , beside the office. Noise by itself is a distraction. You cannot work well if there is a distraction specially noise. n
You tend to get a headache because of it.

Thanks simplyd, i had thought that too but because of the noise my boss expressed his displeasure in us getting out hair done there. it would have been so perfect.

I think you should try legal help, call the police or something. It's your job, and your workplace, you have all the right to work peacefully and quietly and do your job the best way possible. I think the police or any other legal group will respect your claims and help you.

Yes we have asked them more than three times and still continue but I get the obnoxious loud people bit that has actually brought the problem.

I do not think it is a perfect set up for an office and a salon to be situated side by side. While it is okay for the salon to be beside with practically any kind of business, the office needs some peace and quiet environment. Plus, the office wouldn't look professional to be having people walk by every now and then going to the other side.

Thanks Jenny, I miss the good old days when there was absolute quite and I could just concentrate on my work but today earplugs are a must carry in my bag as it takes too much effort to shut out the sounds.

Hi,
It all boils down to the zoning ordinance in a particular place. Some establishments are not supposed to be in proximity with another not suitable for its purpose, such as a school or a place of worship and a bar or movie houses. They just don't mix or there would be adverse reactions and effects.
An office should be located in a place more conducive to doing business in an establishment. Although you didn't mention the nature of your work,I understand silence and concentration is necessary to effectively carry out your work, free from distractions.
Try to talk with them if possible, if you can't, you may contact the local arbitration board in your barangay to settle the matter. Too loud a noise in a public place constitutes public disturbance in general (this include motor vehicles without mufflers, karaoke bars that sound as is a hundred bulls are being slaughtered inside and the like).
Being in a public domain, you may claim such right in your place.

From how you have described the rules and regulation of establishments, you must live in an awesome environment. The office I work at specializes in Tours and travel and yes silence is required. There are shortcoming in my place of work as the building is owned by an individual and can rent to whomever he chooses and its the responsibility of the tenants to co-exist and yes they have been told to be quieter so they know that they disturb us.
