Now I know that I originally set up this interest to share my poetry, but as well I also set up this so that everyone can talk about different types of poetry. What I am going to do here in this post is discuss forms of Japanese poetry. Now out of all the different types of poetry that there are I prefer Japanese poetry the best. I write all kinds of Japanese poetry. Although I prefer Tanka and Haiku.
The first form of Japanese poetry that I am going to talk about is what is known a Tanka. Tanka is a form of Japanese poetry that goes by syllables. The first line of the Tanka has five syllables. The second line has seven syllables, the third line has five syllables. The fourth line has five syllables. The last two lines both have seven syllables each. Now when it comes to writing the Tanka the Tanka should invoke a thought and emotion or a scene of nature or something of the sort.
Now when you take away the last two lines of the Tanka you get a Haiku. Haiku can be written the same way it is just that you take out the last two lines. As well if you add a prose too the beginning of the Tanka you get what is known as Tanka prose. Tanka prose is a prose followed by a Tanka poem. Now over the centuries things have changed you still have your traditional Tanka. As well though because of the modernization of everything you also have english free verse tanka as well.
