I saw this somewhere on face book when I was just going through the recent happenings. It had a funny message, "apple and blackberry used to be fruits when I was young"...and there was a teenage guy with a cute face. I felt this image quite funny. I also wondered what actually make the companies think of a name like that? Do they just rely on "just like that" phase as an answer to this question. Or do they have some logic. Anyway it is interesting to know it from them rather.

May be the person who invented it thought apple is the most sweetest fruit to him or her, so if they give that name to their company it will give them market like how apple normally get market, cant you notice how their products are selling today like hot cake?

We all have different logic for what could have been the reason for such names. I got some responses which seem more authenticated. But nevertheless it is the product that popularizes a name and name has a little less role in doing same to the product. If the product is not good enough to be excepted, it will have no impact over market howsoever sweet name the product possess. Be it sugar, glucose, sucrose or anything

Very interesting discussion….So I would like to put something more on the way…Well, the idea of establishing the computer company was started in 1976 by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak and first came up with the name ‘Apple Computers’.
Steve Jobs was involved with a group of his friends in running a community type of farm in Oregon. Wozniak thinks he might have got this name idea either from the farm or because of his music tastes and again came up with new name ‘Apple Records’.
Both Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak sticked with the name Apple Computers for long time but later they saw there was copyright problem with the name.
Finally the computers part dropped from the name ‘Apple Computers’ and remained continue with the name Apple. There is no doubt the idea came from the fruit, Apple (Maybe from the Apple farm)
While, RIM settled on the name with Lexicon Branding Inc., one of the branding firms out of California. A thought came in the mind of one of the executives and told that buttons on device just looks like tiny seeds in a strawberry but strawberry name did not seemed enough fit and someone else came the name Blackberry and RIM went for it.

Thank you for your informative approach and its consequent post. One more thing I wanted to request you people that I was not intending to show any over smartness by starting a discussion of this sense. They who think of these names are far more business minded that we are so at no point can we challenge their innovative thinking. This post was the result of me wondering over the name.

Hey very rightly pointed out. Yeah they used to be known to us as fruits but now have become the leading names of brand companies and it really sounds funny when we take their name in general. Now we have to wait what other names of fruits and vegetables are coming up in the market that would be taken as the leading names of the companies. What say?

Yes you never know what yet surprising names can pop out in upcoming years. But I have noticed uptill when t is in your head it appears surprising but once it comes into the market with any absurd logic we get used to it.

May be people like to be reputable as reputable as the rich fruits are. May we wont see any company's name named after the name of any poor fruits or things.

Companies usually name their products with a purpose, having an eye catching name is one of it's purposes. Its names stands the quality of its product.

If it is a company perhaps they are trying to get people attention or make them think about what the phrase is saying or what it means. Why you would feel this is funny I don't know. I think it rather cute but not funny. I would have added oranges to this as well. lol
