My mom always scold me that I am ruining my sleeping cycle for sleeping late at night and waking up late in the morning but still get enough hours of sleep. She also tells me that it's bad for our health. I tried to research but I only ended up finding that enough hours of sleep is good for our body but I never found an article saying that sleeping late and waking up late but still getting enough sleep is bad. Can anyone help me understand? thanks! :

Yes this is bad habit but now most of the persons like me also sleeps late night because watching TV or working in mylot. I want to wake up early morning but difficult for me because not enough sleep. Early morning waking is very good for body but now in busy days difficult for everyone.

Getting enough sleep is really what matters. What your mother is concerned about is maybe, you get to sleep during the day when everybody else is awake and you rarely have time to associate with them. Your mother telling it over and over to you has nothing to do with you having the right amount of sleep. Haven't read any articles about what she said, either.

Different people prefer sleeping different amounts of time and at different times during the day or year. The question of sleeping late and waking late is more to do with how other people sleep. There is some research on how light, from the sun etc, does affect our sleep patterns. Then there is the amount of sleep is different for different people, some people are fine with 6 hours others need 10 or more. The younger you are then more sleep helps as it is when we sleep that bones grow. The thing is this argument of how many hours and at what times people should sleep has never been an easy one, sleep specialist and doctors at times don't agree. So the best is to find a system that works for you, your Mom is just trying to get the best for you, maybe early to bed early to rise works for her.

It's mostly on Friday and Saturday that I go to bed at late night. On other days I am bed by 10 pm i.e. in case I am not having a night shift. It is said that going to bed late and waking up late in the morning is not good for health.
