I think at a certain point in my life, that happened to me. I was so much in love with my boyfriend then, now my husband, that I chose to be with him all of the time than to connect with my long-time friends. I thought I would be happy that way. But when I got married, I missed my friends. I started feeling the void. Good thing Facebook came and it was through it that we were again able to connect.
We really should not choose between friends and our partners. Both give us joy and completes us.

Yes this certainly sounds to be a very big mistake. One should never ask his/her lover to make a choice between them and any other person. Every relationship holds some value in our life. In some situations we need to prioritize our relationships, but we certainly cannot and should not forsake our relationships.

swissheart!
I could not agree with you more on this fact! It is very wrong for someone to try to break a relationship up from two people. It is very controlling and hurtfull. If you accept the person at the value of who they are then you also accept the people in their lives.

It's always wrong to ask someone to make a choice between you and someone else.. no matter if these are friends or family or an animal. If your partner is not there for you he/she is not the right one. If he/she finds friends/family more important as you, you better end the relationship. You can not have a relationship with someone who you can't build on, can't trust, who will betray you or let you down. I don't agree with you that relationships come and go ... btw.. friends are relationships as well and they won't stay forever either. Already a very small issue can kill a friendship over 20 years old.. just read here!
If you have a partner, build a family he/she should stand to you as well.
