I entered a competition

I know that you can't ask people to vote for you in MyLot discussions. This isn't what this discussion is about. This is a question about why people won't take 10 seconds out of their day to vote for others. When my friends enter comps and ask me to vote or send a message I help them out and sometimes when I can spread the word. Now that I have entered I'm hardly getting any votes on my work. The thing that's really frustrating me is that I can win easily because a place that I posted I have over 4500 people watching me so they all would have gotten this message in their inbox yet after 1 day I've gotten 17 people that said they would help and some haven't. I only got 11 votes so far and I know some came from my FB friends and family. So question is why don't people want to help others and why do people lie or say they will help and then don't follow through?
